Wow - thanks for that, I didn’t know about the barn fire. I heard him say he didn’t think he’d get back in the business, but when he was introduced to the trainer, he thought he’d give it a try.
On a side note, my Thoroughbred mare I had for 20 years, just happened to be turned out with her dam, as was her half sister, on the TB farm where they were born. There was a barn fire & all horses in the barn were killed. The horses that survived were sold. My mare & her half-sister were bought as Christmas presents for 2 sisters who lived down the road. I bought my mare from one of the sisters when she was 9 - she lived to the ripe old age of 29. When I quit showing, she was retired to broodmare status & had 3 beautiful TB colts. If I ever had horses again, it would be broodmares. Aside from the financial loss, I can’t imagine how terrible it must be to lose horses in a fire. So happy for Rich Strike’s owner.
My mom’s father lost race horses in a barn fire. Never owned another horse.
Glad for this guy.
