A 'hero' Russian world champion in an international tank warfare competition was killed when he was sent by Vladimir Putin into a real battle in Ukraine.
Bato Basanov, 25, from Buryatia, was in a record-breaking tank biathlon team that performed last year in war games in front of defence minister Sergei Shoigu and chief of the army general staff Valery Gerasimov.
But his conflict ended in death when his tank was hit in Ukraine.

It’s not extra armor plate that went missing, it’s “reactive armor”, which is basically explosive charges (shaped charges to direct the force away from the tank). These are suppose to explode when the tank is hit to redirect the impact away from the vehicle. The pouches to contain the charges were left on the vehicles, but someone apparently sold off the actual charges that were supposed to go in the pouches and replaced them with old egg cartons instead.
They should add Stugna-Ps and NLAWs to the obstacle course to make it more realistic.
But RIP. It’s a shame to die in your prime in an ill-begotten war.

Additionally, the Ukies have been popping levees and such to flood large areas. I don’t know if they’ve been able to immobilize / trap any Russian tanks, but, it seems like a possibility.

USA would not send tanks to lead an attack on a battlefield, not without air superiority and infantry troops protection.

The M1 hit a mine that disabled the track. The crew was told to wait for a tank recovery vehicle. While the rest of the column moved on the crew waited. Soon after three Iraqi T-72s showed up and one opened fire. The round bounced off the Abrams, the Abrams swung it's gun around and took out the T-72. Another Iraqi tank fired and that round bounced off. The Abrams took that one out too. The third Iraqi tank fired and missed and then ducked behind a sand berm. The Abrams thermal sight picked up the heat signature from behind the berm and fired a round that went through the sand berm and took out the third Iraqi tank. Pretty damn good shooting if you ask me.
