A 'hero' Russian world champion in an international tank warfare competition was killed when he was sent by Vladimir Putin into a real battle in Ukraine.
Bato Basanov, 25, from Buryatia, was in a record-breaking tank biathlon team that performed last year in war games in front of defence minister Sergei Shoigu and chief of the army general staff Valery Gerasimov.
But his conflict ended in death when his tank was hit in Ukraine.

All this time and money spent preparing
—
“preparing” is English for stealing. Hardly any money that is “spent” on the military actually is used for the intended purpose, even troop food funds are stolen. Theft is a way of life in Orc Land going back at least 500 years.
But in the last 30 years or so accurate top attack weapons have changed the game significantly. If a tandem warhead penetrates the top, it is generally going to send the jet nearly vertically into the crew compartment and will very likely hit the propellant charges stowed on the floor. And, of course, the results can be catastrophic as the propellant burns.
Abrams won’t go too far in Eastern Europe due to poor terrain and enormous weight. And it blow up just as good as any other tank when hit from above.

Of course, you’ve seen this first hand during your tours as a Orc spy in Iraq 1 & 2 and Afghan? Or are you just trolling and puffing as usual?
Maybe we can send some young American libtards over to fight for Ukraine, hopefully with the same end result.
With regards to this Russian tank ace, the war games he was good at probably never had drones or hand held anti-tank weapons attacking him.

Or massed artillery ... the real tank killer
I wonder how many Russian losses have come in tank duels as opposed to being the result of AT missiles. From the start of this my thoughts went back to Oct ‘72 and how the Egyptians decimated Israeli armor with Russian Saggers.
I agree. And yet, the U.S. currently has 11 aircraft carriers in service, with three more under construction and another on order. I wonder why that is?
The war racket: it's not just for Russian oligarchs anymore.
War is hell, madame.

General George S. Patton was right when he said we should've eliminated Russia and that they were an enemy.
I'll say this too (for about the hundredth time here on FR): absent nukes, the 'vaunted' Russian Military is barely better than third-world status (think Iraqi Republican Guard during Desert Storm I) and without those nukes with which they're now threatening us with global thermonuclear war, they'd have crumbled under their own weight by now.
Just sayin' ... Hey, I'm headed out to ASC tomorrow. Wanted to go today but with the 4 days of rain we just went through, it's gonna be really muddy out there...
Our enemy is not the men we have to kill, but the bastards that started the war.
When I was a boy, my father - a career soldier - brought me to Arlington National Cemetery. He said that place was the happy hunting grounds of America and that, in the next life, all those who served honorably will be together. One day I and my son will join him and maybe also this man, Bato Basanov.
As Kipling said...
A scrimmage in a Border Station-
A canter down some dark defile
Two thousand pounds of education
Drops to a ten-rupee jezail.
The Crammer’s boast, the Squadron’s pride,
Shot like a rabbit in a ride!
Russia has a history of quantity over quality. Their idea from what I gather was overwhelming the enemy by numbers.
Gee...that’s a shame.
If you are to continue with dehumanizing, don’t be surprised to be treated as a pest at one point.
Agree. We, I shouldn’t get enthusiastic about an individual death. But this is all on Putin.
They had little choice.
They attacked during what we in the northern rural northeast call "mud season".
If they attempted to drive anywhere but on tarmac roads, they would have gotten stuck.
“Hey, I’m headed out to ASC tomorrow.”
We will most likely be there, too. Planning on fishing one of the ponds. If you see us parked there stop by and say hello!

I agree on aircraft carriers. I think that tanks still have their place but only as part of a combined arms team employing sound tactics. That is, the tanks need to be in synch with various other functions operating together - infantry, helicopters, drones, artillery, smoke, etc... Clanging solo down a road with no friends over-watching the surrounding terrain will never work no matter how advanced the individual tank is.
“don’t be surprised to be treated as a pest at one point.”
Russians are the pests right now.
