MEXICO CITY (Reuters) - Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador on Wednesday urged the United States to boost investment in Central America to help curb migration, saying not enough had been done. "Almost nothing has been invested so far," Lopez Obrador told a regular news conference, making reference to prior U.S. commitments to invest in Central America.

Honestly, I’ve had the view the USA should have been investing heavily in central/south America. We are shipping our jobs out of this country, why not send them south and provide a better living for those countries and stem the flow of illegals?
China and India have a larger tax base to soak for our politicians pocketbooks.
Translated; give us money or will flood your country with refugees.

I brought this up a long time ago on here. Closer. Less logistics i getting stuff up here. No more Pacific Ocean to cross. And China is starved.
A response was: it has been tried before. The folks in countries south of the border won’t work and the politicians steal everything.
Mexico has a good idea. In the past MUCH of the money which went to Guatemala ends up in deep pockets of people government leaders. It is real sad. But I like the Mexico idea, and though it may cost a little, I think the same NAFTA IDEA originally was to build mostly highways to get goods and services to the 28 million consumers in Mexico City. I have been at the borders of Central America, and they need some 4 lane highways to get their avacados to American markets as well as roads for them to import toilet paper from Wisconsin. Building a road, would really help the infrastructure, open markets and might stem some of the flood of immigrants to the border.
Money for central American oligarchs while they send their poor illiterate peasants out of their countries to receive further sustenance from the already overburdened US taxpayer.
It doesn’t get any better.
I’d rather send jobs to Mexico than China.
If companies had made the investment in Mexican manufacturing they made in China over the last 30 years both the US and Mexico would be better off today.
A lot of automotive components went from US manufacturing to Mexico but then moved on to China.
What I find interesting currently is a lot of those auto parts that used to come from China are now from Vietnam, India, and Indonesia.
I think the Chinese have moved up the wage scale enough to enable other 3rd world locations.
