Wild, aggressive turkey terrorizes nation’s capital, slips across state lines into Maryland

A ferocious wild turkey has been terrorizing residents in Washington, D.C. and Maryland while eluding multiple agencies who are on its trail.

Residents have for months reported being attacked by a wild turkey and officials believe it is the same male turkey responsible. Several of these attacks were reported on the Anacostia River Walk Trail near the D.C.-Maryland border.

The attacks have become such an issue that authorities posted a sign with a picture of a wild turkey alongside the trail: "Caution! Do not approach wildlife."

Dan Rauch with the Department of Energy and Environment told D.C.’s FOX 5 there are more than 100 wild turkeys throughout the city but believes just one male is responsible for the attacks.

The fowl is believed to have slipped across state lines, expanding the number of agencies on its trail, including D.C.’s Department of Energy, Prince George’s County Parks and Recreation Department, and the Maryland Department of Natural Resources.

Prince George’s County Parks and Recreation Department told Fox News that no sightings have been reported since last week.

Thanks. That’s it. I laugh each time I watch it. They acted as if no one can cross a state line without permission from their “betters”.

Two aggressive turkeys wouldn’t let me walk down a street in one of the most urban areas in Boston last week.

Yeah, got the daughter in the clinic getting cured off the Wild Turkey. And the older boy, bless his soul, is preparing for his career.

Here in the South, the mating season has gone by, but I see a lot of single hens looking for a place to lay their eggs. “

There has been a lone hen coming around the bird feeder here a few times in the past week.

Has the turkey chased down any girls or young women and aggressively sniffed their hair?

When you're driving down the highway at night
And you're feelin' that wild turkey's bite
Don't give Johnny Walker a ride
Cause Jack Black is right by your side
You might get taken to the jailhouse and find
You've been arrested for driving while blind

“The fowl is believed to have slipped across state lines, expanding the number of agencies on its trail,.....”

Says a lot about the turkey or is that the various agencies. I’m so confused.

Great! She’s probably got a nest nearby.

I think they will lay one egg a day until they’re all laid (8-12 per clutch), and then sit on it until they all hatch.

The benefit is that if a predator discovers the nest, she can lay the rest of her eggs elsewhere. Then, when the entire clutch is laid, she will guard the nest ferociously.

In the meantime, don’t disturb her and you may get to see her and her polts in a few weeks!

There was a hen with 12 babies on my neighbor’s property a couple of years back. She said one day they were walking through the tall grass and heard a noise and instantly all of them laid as flat as they could in the grass to disappear.

Out of those 12, six survived to adulthood which is a 50%. I think the average survival rate is between 35-60%.
