JD Vance Wins GOP Primary Race in Ohio After Trump’s Endorsement

Author JD Vance has won the Ohio’s GOP Senate primary after being endorsed by former President Donald Trump in the hotly contested race.

With 95 percent of the votes counted, Vance had 32 percent of the vote in the seven-way race. Former Ohio Treasurer Josh Mandel came in second with 24 percent of the vote, and State Senator Matt Dolan was in third place with 22.5 percent.

As recently as last March, Vance was languishing in fourth place, but his fortunes quickly changed after Trump endorsed him in mid-April.

The Yale-educated writer will face Democrat Rep. Tim Ryan in the general election in November. Vance, 37, is best known for his memoir, Hillbilly Elegy, which recounts his upbringing in Appalachian Kentucky.

Vance was sharply critical of Trump during and shortly after the 2016 election, which put him at odds with many “MAGA” supporters in the state.

Last month, Trump acknowledged that Vance had been critical of him in the past, but argued that he gives Republicans the best shot at winning in a general election.

“Like some others, J.D. Vance may have said some not so great things about me in the past, but he gets it now, and I have seen that in spades,” Trump said. “He is our best chance for victory in what could be a very tough race. The Democrats will be spending many millions of dollars, but the good news is that they have a defective candidate who ran for President and garnered exactly zero percent in the polls. The bottom line is, we must have a Republican victory in Ohio.”

Vance thanked Trump for his endorsement during his victory speech Tuesday night.

“A lot of the Fake News Media out there…they wanted to write a story that this campaign ...

Since I have absolutely no idea how anyone will behave once elected, I’m going with Trump’s choices. That’s the least i can do for him after he laid it all on the line fighting for US

Thankful for the victories wherever they come. Pray for results in November, but more importantly (for those who pray), pray for steel in the man’s soul. Few things are more insidious than the lure of power, money and accoutrements that come with a position of power. Far better men than me have gone to DC and simply vanished down the sewer that it is.

I have been guilty of simply adopting an attitude of “oh, great... my man won” and moving on. In fact, that is when the battle starts, and as ridiculous as it sounds, it is far more of an unseen battle than an observable one.

This clown was fine with Hillary picking Supreme Court justices. Don't trust him in the slightest regardless of what Trump says. But I'll vote for him in November anyway because of he's more likely to vote the right way on judicial nominees that is any Democrat.

That's not saying much, but every little bit helps.

I don’t care what anyone says about Vance. Clearly, he’s a populist wildcard that won’t be under the thumb of Mcconnell and the RINO establishment, and he is endorsed by Trump. That’s a home run in my book! I’m looking forward to him shaking things up in Washington! Go JD! Go Trump!

Very true. There have been many who ran and won on a platform of a constitutional republic, limited government, states rights, etc., only to have been corrupted by the likes of Mumbling Mitch McConnell and Merlot John Boehner. I hope Vance turns out to be what he campaigned on.

A state treasurer swamp ran against him as well as a state senator. Senators make the worst executives as they still work for their branch. Utterly corrupt that the GOP establishment offers

I live in Ohio, and I voted for Vance. But I was not planning to vote for him — UNTIL THE SCOTUS LEAK ON THE DOBBS DECISION. I was planning to vote for Dolan, because the purpose of the Senate is to cool down the passions of the public and I did not want another firebrand. But the SCOTUS leak convinced me that the General election was going to be a “Turn Out” or “Broken Glass” election, and the GOP candidate needed as many Trump supporters as possible in order to prevent the DEM candidate from winning. If Dolan had won, many Trump supporters would have “stayed home.”

I have to admit, he gets the picks wrong with frequency that approaches alarm (not only for candidates he supports but for his own team) but...the man is willing to put his mug in the line of fire and fight, more than any other public figure in my memory.

I support him fully for that.

Trumpy Badger Don’t Care.

I bet the ads on Vance had effect as well. When you get an attack ad on a Trump endorsed Republican candidate by the Club for Growth, it tends to be a clue.

Or the other attack ad disengenuosly tying Vance to Putin from some organization heretofore unknown--sounded a lot like the Ukraine agitprop gang here on FR.

Oh RINO lover spare us your "wisdom" please. The moderate GOP Senate GOP is a disgrace. Vance is going to make it better.

Vance is for working Americans....ie for tariffs on China and against illegal immigration and is against the Deep State war machine. The RINO establishment flooded money into Ohio to try to stop him......and faceplanted.

Here’s to hoping the exact same thing happens in Alaska. Vance will of course remember who was against him meaning there is zero chance he goes to the Swamp and becomes one of them. Here’s to hoping he is joined in the Senate by Walker and Budd and Tschibaka and Masters and Greitens. We need as many MAGA Senators as possible.
