I would like to know what people think about the Presta vs. Schrader valve issue.

Personally, I”ve had a lot of trouble with Presta valve equipped tubes, and I find them to be more “fiddly” than Schraders. I had several in a row fail catastrophically where the stem just decided to divorce itself from the tube. My LBS guy tells me this is not uncommon with Presta valves, which makes me wonder why anyone would want to go on a bike tour with them if they have that kind of propensity.

Therefore, I’m converting our fleet to Schrader only. After all, our cars, trucks, trailers, motorcycles, wheelbarrows, etc. all use Schrader valves, so why have one exception for the bicycles?

My impression of them is that they are a snooty European solution to a problem that doesn’t exist.

:^)

Are you still taping your bike rides around Berlin?

I watched several hours of your travels a couple years ago and really enjoyed myself.

I enjoyed them so much I actually thought about retiring in Germany for a while.

The last bike ride that I took was from Oak Bluffs, Mass. to Chappaquiddick Island—about three miles. There, I rode over a famous bridge where an incident occurred that kept a very bad man out of the White House.

I rode by this Institute that is part of Humboldt University a bunch of times so I decided to check the grounds.
Behind I found a beach volleyball net, couple of ping-pong tables, a full basketball court (off picture to the right) and thought this is a great place.

A block further to the left was... this Thing. I don't really know what that is.

Looking the other way from behind It is a cafeteria. But I didn't go there because I was happy with the two bananas I had in my pockets.

Look at the size of that red door. I would like to see what they have parked behind that! What's with that crazy big-ass pipe? I was there and I don't even know. School kids my daughter's age (12) came out of the door on the right. Some of them climbed up the stairs of the Thing. I thought sparks or something might fly out when the door opened. But then they just sat down.

Went to Wannsee Beach for the first time.

On the way there I got a little lost but was glad because I saw this interesting deep gully bridge.

On the way back I got a little lost but was glad because I looked at this street sign.
