California chef Michael Jones admitted to Googling guests before they arrive to screen for potential red flags — like a history of leaving negative reviews or being rude to restaurant workers. He then documented and blacklisted wannabe patrons at his establishment.
The Carmel Valley-based vineyard chef’s controversial habit emerged after a tweet by Adam Reiner of Restaurant Manifesto on March 30 that read: “Hospitality isn’t Googling your guests before they arrive.”

“Disagree. We check TripAdvisor and [Yelp for] possible problems, then cancel,” Jones tweeted, defending his social media “background check,” adding, “[Facebook] sometimes gives clues to make their visit unique.”

“Omg. You’re a freaking COOK. If you don’t want me as a customer then bite me.”

Well, if YOU have been routinely rude to the servers they’ll likely be very thankful to him for sending you elsewhere.
Reminds me of the disaster of “Amy’s Bakery”.
Good way to deal with spoiled Karens...
When I was sorting resumes I’d trash the ones that were outright unsuitable then google the others. It was sad to learn that out of an eight inch stack of paper only one resume was marginally acceptable.
Ok Karen. I’ll be as rude as I want to anyone I want.
Obviously! :)

Yelp was a PITA for restaurants during the the time to which you are referring.
I recall one place had a sign at the door that read, “Come in and try the worst steak sandwich one Yelper ever ate”.
Howard Schultz (Starbucks) once said, “I don’t need Christians in my stores,” I said that’s fine with me and the First lady.
Haven’t been there since.

I’m from L.A. and some of these chefs think they’re the greatest chef of all time. I think I’ve been to most “good” restaurants in the nicer areas and they come out to greet you halfway your meal which annoys me. I dont care about the chef as I concentrate on the food and company.
I have ‘known’ women like Amy, You just have to direct their crazy away from you.
It is draining, but can be entertaining.
Unfortunately prince harry does not quite understand how to do that, but also entertaining and kinda sad
Business must be good. He will stop doing this as soon as it slows down.
That’s one way to make sure no one gets tipped.
Chef, you’re feeding brown nosers, it could taste like cow pie and they’d still shove their nose up your butt.
Admit it, you are all a pack of pathetic reprobates .
I bet your ‘ art’ tastes like crap, and is cold to boot.
A true classic circle jerk.
I remember Yelp complaints about a restaurant on the other side of Lake Tawakoni, outside of Dallas.
Most of the complainers were from ... California!?
Yeah, Yelp let the complainers hammer restaurants for Trump flags and all sorts of nonsense.
Even if the complainer couldn’t have found that out-of-the-way restaurant with both Goog and Apple maps.
Wonder if he’s canceling reservations for anyone he finds who wore a MAGA hat?
Every employer in America does that before interviewing, too - they just don’t talk about it. :)
