WRIGHT-PATTERSON AIR FORCE BASE, Ohio — An Air Force major general in Ohio has been convicted by a military judge of one of three specifications of abusive sexual contact in the first-ever military trial of an Air Force general.
The charge faced by Maj. Gen. William Cooley during the weeklong court-martial at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Ohio had three specifications, one alleging a forcible kiss and two alleging forcible touching in 2018. Cooley was convicted Saturday of the forcible kissing specification but acquitted of the other two.
Officials said the verdict marks the first court-martial trial and conviction of a general officer in the Air Force’s 75-year history.
A former commander of Air Force Research Laboratory, Cooley was charged with abusive sexual contact in an encounter with a woman who gave him a ride after a backyard barbecue in New Mexico nearly four years ago. Officials said the woman is a civilian who is not a Department of Defense employee.
Cooley was to be sentenced Monday morning and could face as much as seven years in jail as well as loss of rank, pay and benefits.
Cooley had the option of a trial by court member jurors or by military judge, and chose to have the case heard by the judge.

2018?
a ‘forcible kiss’, not at work, and a person not even in the military?
Someone set him up to fail is my gut reaction.
I wonder who he pissed off.
He wouldn’t have been the first if MG Fiscus, the former AF TJAG, has gotten what he deserved a few years ago.
Convicted of a forcible kiss, and could go to jail for seven years? He must be white.
If his name was Baldin, he could get away with murder.
He’d get less time grooming kids to alternative lifestyles in Ohio public schools.
“If his name was Baldin, he could get away with murder.”
I don’t get it. Who is Baldin?
Alec Baldwin, I think is what was meant. The D-clown currently avoiding a rap in the shooting death of his cinematographer in New Mexico about six months ago.
Yeah, it seemed like kind of a nothing burger to me too.
I must be missing something, because I still don’t get it. What does a coat of arms have to do with this? I have a suspicious feeling that there is a very simple and obvious answer, so I must be pretty slow.
“Alec Baldwin, I think is what was meant. The D-clown currently avoiding a rap in the shooting death of his cinematographer in New Mexico about six months ago.”
Oh, I get it now. He misspelled it. Here I was wracking my brain trying to figure out BALDIN, and he even posted a BALDIN coat of arms, and I’m going, “I don’t get it!”
Thanks for the explanation! I can sleep peacefully tonight!
He must be an old school general who hasn’t gone green enough.
“....Cooley was charged with abusive sexual contact in an encounter with a woman who gave him a ride after a backyard barbecue...”
Just because she had her hand in his fly why would he think she was available?
Article in the Albuquerque Journal: He’s an identical twin and it was his sister in law he went after.
The VA has gone nuts asking about any sexual abuse or threats. It’s boilerplate questions every visit.
I tell them I was in before ‘dont ask, don’t tell’, so no females in combat arms and no fags in the Cav. I got along great. The looks I’m getting!!
Sometimes, I can only wonder.
Last VA visit was 1 hour. A solid 25 mins were questions about considering suicide. The procedure is to scatter them around so that if you’re discussing Vitamin D levels and then something else the suicide question appears again.
Have you had any thoughts about planning a suicide?
Have you ever bought poison or a firearm with that in mind?
In the past 3 months have you ever discovered that you had no food or a way to get some, and do you have any worries about having shelter over the next year?
On and on. The veteran suicide numbers are pretty ugly.
And another item . . . heads up on this, it shocked me, 81% of vets over age 50 have sleep apnea and without treatment it will evolve into stroke or a long list of early death mechanisms. It’s not BS. It’s real. Have a look at your local non VA hospital. It will have a sleep clinic.
