I have family who are in the rodeo business who would argue with that statement.

On a land use acre per animal and usable meat per lb of total weight on hoof goats are twice as efficient as cattle in converting cellulose to animal mass. They are also more water efficient than cattle and more heat heat tolerant. Goats can and do live in the Sahara where cattle struggle to live. Like I said there is a reason goat is the number one consumed ungulate protein in the world by far.

You couldn’t leave Herfords alone on 100 acres in Pecos County to fend for themselves no range blocks no hay supplements no salt cubes. I have at least 20 Nubian goats with that number growing even with losses to coyotes and me shooting some every year hardly little buggers. Like feral hogs they just go about life no humans needed.
