I was also charged by a pit bull while walking down my street. I’m not sure if the owner’s sharp “NO!” make it stop in it’s tracks and turn around, but I really don’t know what would have happened without that command. I could have a skin graft on my arm right now.

This was a scary enough event to make me consider carrying a pistol. But I really do not want start popping off 9mm rounds in a residential neighborhood.

Unless a dog is trained to attack, they expect you to run. If you stand still they will (most of.the time) stop and wait for you to run before they bite you. When they stop 2 or 3 feet from you is your only chance. But you must strike hard.

What’s amazing is how many pit owners fail to secure their dogs. There are videos out there of unsecured pits eating people. Real ugly stuff. From my experience an owner would know if their dog is vicious, and most owners will know damn well if the dog is capable of running at and attacking some innocent passerby no reason whatsoever. In most cases, it’s the chosen breed of the dangerously stupid.
