It's the people who ruin the dog breeds. It happens to every breed that becomes too popular. I bought my first Cane Corso mastiff in 1995. They were very rear, especially in the US. The dog was the best dog I ever owned by far and I've owned many different breeds. I was looking to buy another one a few years ago. I was disgusted by what I saw. Irresponsible breeders galore. These are big, powerful and loyal dogs. You don't have to breed them to be mean and aggressive. It goes against their nature. People are breeding dangerous dogs and selling them to people who don't know how to handle that type of dog.

The “German Shepherd mix” in the story appears to be GSD/Belgian Mallinois mix. Very capable working dogs, with a lot of energy. I’ll bet it got no exercise.

Mallinois

Like pits, the breed has become a victim if it’s own popularity. I tend to look on herding dogs in the hands of “families” the way that many people look upon pits. I don’t really trust them, or rather, trust them to revert to form when stressed.
