After weeks of heavy salvage work in the Chesapeake Bay, the massive continership Ever Forward is free and underway.

The 334-meter-long Ever Forward has been stuck in the mud since March 13th after straying from the Craighill shipping channel as it departed the Port of Baltimore for Norfolk, Virginia, with a pilot on board.

Just before 7 am on Easter Sunday, two anchor barges and five large tugboats pulled the ship astern and sideways until she was dislodged. The salvage crews recieved help from a full moon and a spring tide to release the ship that had been stuck for more than a month.

From this stranding I learned about the maritime law concept of GENERAL AVERAGE whereby all the shippers with cargo on board can be required to share in the costs of freeing the ship. Never heard of it before.

https://www.maritime-executive.com/article/general-average-declared-on-ever-forward-as-salvage-costs-grow

Still haven’t heard about what will be happening to the Bay Pilot who was in charge of piloting the ship out of the Chesapeake Bay.

Between the Suez and Chesapeake, Evergreen might reconsider their pilotage hires.

"Would you like fries with that?"

Is it my imagination, or is container ship two words, and not a compound word like friendship?

And I don’t think continership is an alternate spelling.

Joining the faculty of the Hazelwood school of navigation, no doubt.

I’d be curious to know who all had to pay to remove the auto RORO that got stuck and capsized in shallow water just out of the shipping channel at Brunswick, GA. We did a vacation at St. Simons Island in Spring of 2021, and my son and I boated within 150 yards of the demolition/removal operation.

I bet there are still some Lloyds partners crying the blues over that one.

How is this possible with the extreme and rapidly rising seas caused by Man Made Global Warming?

Best to Google before showing your ignorance!

“After weeks of heavy salvage work in the Chesapeake Bay, the massive (containership) Ever Forward is free and underway.”

Maybe these guys can head over to the Black Sea and help the Russians with their fleet of submersible warships.

Even ships are trying to flee corruption and crime ridden Baltimore.

I was smart and left in 1966.

It was once a great place to live, go to school, and shop in downtown. Now many sections of the city I lived in or shopped in are crime cesspool ruled by feral animals and corrupt politicians.

The ship got lucky. Like so many decent people, it could have been stuck there for life.

Either one word or two is acceptable.

Alignment with Jupiter affects tides, but not a very strong pull.
