“If it’s money you’re after, I will buy them back,” Vanden Dries said. Okay.
Anyway, video at source.
My bikes are probably worth a little under $5000, and I keep them here in my place.
People see me carrying a bike up the stairs and they say, 'There's a bike rack outside.'
I just look at them and shake my head.

For some reason I laughed and even snickered a bit reading this.

Always keep your serial numbers.
I can’t speak for the US, but in my city, pawnshops can’t sell bikes unless those bikes have been vetted by the cops. The cops check for serial numbers on a monthly basis.
For the sake of a few pounds, I just get a light-weight stock bike and replace the parts with good quality parts as they need replacement. I don’t see the point of paying for a bike that you have to keep with you at all times. It becomes a weight in itself.

$8,000 in bikes stolen...
“I gave my number to probably 30 different people asking if they saw anything, to let me know,” Vanden Dries said.
This is a job for Madame Ruby:
For $20 I can tell you a lot of things.
For 30 I can tell you more.
And for 50 I can tell you everything.

A long standing truism here in Colorado the bike perched on a bike rack on the top of a transporting vehicle is worth more than the vehicle.

Probably plastic bikes with more gears than sense.
All my bikes are made of metal and say things like columbus, or 531, and the other random stuff says campagnolo, dura ace or brooks (except for the french one)

The couple went out to several homeless encampments looking for the bikes and said they even offered money to anyone who found them. “I gave my number to probably 30 different people asking if they saw anything, to let me know,” Vanden Dries said.
They may be getting more late night visits now that they've advertised their taste for high-end possessions in the right places.

I have a Bianchi Nuovo Racing with Campy and Shimano eq. which I paid a couple grand for in about 1980 and only roade about 300 miles. I can’t remember if its columbus SL or Tretubi. Its should be a wall ornament in some very expensive condo.
