ANNAPOLIS, Md. — The Ever Forward cargo ship is on the move again after being stuck in the Chesapeake Bay for more than five weeks.
The U.S. Coast Guard told 11 News the ship is moving Sunday morning after it was stuck in the Chesapeake Bay off the coast of Gibson Island since March 13.
SkyTeam 11 video showed at 9:10 a.m. seven tug boats towing the Ever Forward just under the Chesapeake Bay Bridge.
Teams removed hundreds of containers from the ship in the past week before attempting for a third time to refloat the ship. Two barges were used to take the containers back to the Port of Baltimore.
Imagine in a time where conflict is about to break out with China and they decide to scuttle huge freighters in the channels around Norfolk.
“Once is happenstance. Twice is coincidence. Three times is enemy action”
The first two were trial runs.
At one point I heard that the ship lost power and, of course, that would mean no control. Not sure but it does make sense.
Yes it is a coincidence.
Yes it is the same company (Evergreen Marine).
They have over 150 ships out there, with as many of them named Ever___ as they could think of. Yes one of them will have a problem again in the not so distant future.
Ever Stuck - LOL!
Seven tugboats plus partial unloading = “hard aground,” indeed.
“the ship had both a Baltimore harbor pilot and a Chesapeake Bay pilot on board. “
but it was the first time for both, since experienced pilots retired or quit over forced vaxinations. /s
Watched the whole video...well done with lots of information and fast paced. Thanks for the link :)
I thought he gave a decent explanation of what happened as far as the grounding and the efforts to refloat the ship.
I don’t know what the wind and tides were that day but in springtime it can get pretty windy on the Chesapeake (competent pilots should be aware of that). Still, its hard to understand how a ship like this could run aground in a well defined and frequently used channel.
In these days certainly a possibility.
Skills and competence no longer seem to matter.
