April 14, 2022: A majority of voters favor price controls on prescription drugs. A Scott Rasmussen national survey found that 43% of voters strongly favor price controls on prescription drugs, and 29% somewhat favor them. Ten percent (10%) somewhat oppose price controls on prescription drugs, and 6% strongly opp

The government will have the solution only because it has gotten this bad, thanks to the easily led. Bush 43': was he working for them? Think of his drug plan back when.
You can blame the crony capitalism crowd who will incidentally benefit by increased lobbying when controls go into place to fix what they created.
How about just requiring pharmaceutical companies charge American consumers the same prices they offer their products for overseas?
As did the Trump Executive Order which Biden reversed the same day he took office?
There are pros and cons to every position.
Unintended consequences...............
Is there any excuse why ivermectin was not allowed to fight Covid?
Confirms what I thought: 43% of the people don’t understand economics. Which would you rather have for a life-saving drug:
1) availability of the drug albeit at a higher price
2) shortages of the drug
3) shortages of the drug, leading to some kind of government-directed rationing system?
Some of you might remember the price controls on gasoline in the 70’s. Some people hired kids to sit in their cars in the gas lines so they could buy 10 gallons of gasoline. In the history of mankind, price controls are never impact-neutral and the nature of those impacts now depends a lot on how a woke gov’t wants to allocate gas. My guess: The gov’t will give preference to owners of all-electric vehicles!
Is there any excuse why ivermectin was not allowed to fight Covid?
Well, not exactly free...We pay for them and the benefactor pays nothing.
Only because the same government these idiots want to control prices interferes with the way covid was handled.
It will never end until is replaced and and every corporate lawyer and lobbyist is either run out of DC on a rail or watered the Tree of Liberty
All the socialist fascist regulations is what leads to the big prices. Having the gun of government now have the nerve to put price requirements is well, nervy.
You don’t see all the machinations of government that make things exoensive, tough to get, whatever. So you blame the last thing in the chain, the gas station, or the medical company or the drug store.
Very short-sighted.
In truth the regulations should be torn down, not added to.
Soon, there will be shortages, nothing to buy because no one can easily make or sell it.
It costs about 5cents a pill. Their vaccines were not
That’s because they have no idea that drugs prices are manipulated by the federal government thro0ugh closed source controls. Big Pharma bribes our representatives to do that.
Open up the markets and prices will fall 95%. How do I know? Because drugs prices are only 5% overseas what they are here.
Big Pharma controls the prices. They rent politicians to keep those prices in effect.
Sometimes it can be a real bitch when people get what they said they wanted.
"It's a big club - and you are not in it" (George Carlin)
Remember the price of the Aids cocktail? The disease would have gone away on it’s own if gays would have just kept their zippers up. Drug users would have gone away. No way the activists would tone down. They needed 100% of us to fight it with more money. We end up looking heartless. They feed on that crap and we all pay.
It because the crony capitilst crowd in Goverment we have the problems we do. The laws of supply and demand do not get repealed simply because polticans decree it. Goverments can impose price controls they cannot force people to sell at that price.
But emotion based idiocy and sounds good but are actually bad policies are how the US Goverment is run now.
Competition and only 1% of the current government interference would keep costs down. Price controls never work - the ‘unintended consequences’ are always very bad, long term, as history and economics clearly show.
Indeed.
“Price-gouging” actually allocates supply to the most pressing demand.
Look at the nonsense at the start of COVID hysteria.
We had no toilet paper.
What was the solution? Since everyone (esp. in my commie area) hates “price-gouging”, the stores come up with this stupid quota on how many you can buy.
Did the shelves ever fill? No, not really. Only got a little better when the manufacturers and shippers were ALLOWED to work again. But stores still pulled this infantile “only buy 2” policy.
How do you control for how many times that person comes into the store to buy? How many household members do you control for? What if all 4 household members come in that day and buy their quota?
The paranoid hoarders are NOT going to be stopped by this. They might stop if the price is high.
Every time, all the time.
Whether it’s something like this or just plain old voting for some POS UNIPARTY hack like Lindsey Graham.
I actually wondered what happened to that Trump order on re-import of prescription drugs. Biden destroyed it, makes sense. Trump’s order really is the best way to handle this, only complaint is that I wish he did it on day one instead of in 2020. I’d even take a dose of full socialism instead of price controls. Let the Gov’t setup their own production facilities to manufacture drugs long off patent to sell at cost. If private sector can beat it, great. Not a perfect analogy, but similar to USPS in relation to UPS and FedEx. Of course USPS gets regular bailouts, which is bad....damn I don’t know the solution. Healthcare needs fixing and all the GOP seems to do (besides Trump) is scream socialism anytime something is proposed, as if healthcare is a free market now.
You are again likely blaming the company you see on the bottle for what the GOVERNMENT is doing.
The FDA et all put all these artificial controls that drive up the cost to come up with these things. Not to say we couldn’t use some, but the process of wasting time to come up with these medications etc is expensive itself. It needs to be recouped.
Meanwhile, those “other countries” didn’t put those regs on the company so they don’t need to charge for it.
Another thing that apparently happens is that other countries get the expired drugs, etc, that are throw-aways.
I don’t know all the details but I’ve heard/read a lot incidentally along the way.
I am always suspicious of what the government wants to fascistically impose.
