Terry Kath was brilliant. I grew up in Chicago and he represented a lot to me. There are a lot of things I experienced, endured, and survived when I was a kid that I really felt he would understand/get. Maybe just projection from me, but it's the vibe I got. Knew Peter Cetera’s brother (nice guy), but to me the soul of Chicago was Terry Kath.

It was obviously a suicide. That doesn’t take anything away from the music. It’s just strange that that insurance company paid out on a policy without investigation. Good for them. I doubt that my family would get the same privilege. Again I love Chicago’s music.

Other band members said he had a shocked look 8n his face. That he had done this before with an unloaded pistol.

Drummer Igor told me he had studied Buddy Rich’s style. Had to have another guy translate what I was saying a couple of times.

I caught the music bug very early in life. Chicago was one of my first full-fledged-fandoms, I think I was 8 or 9. Their live performances were among the best around, so much energy. I think Chicago is the reason I became a band geek, but, I say that about a lot of bands. Thanks for a great tune :)

Wrong planet, actually...
Now we have Leonid and Friends honoring early Chicago with reverse-engineered note-for-note covers that are outstanding.

Chicago has said that Jimi came backstage after a show and said, “You guys are [great]!”

I saw them in 1969 at Va Tech in a small auditorium. They blew my mind!
VT signed them up for three annual concerts (for peanuts), then the CTA album took off. Every subsequent concert started with “I Don’t Want Your Money”.

Kath was the Chicago sound. Once Cetera joined things went very “pop”

Most of their shows open with “Introduction” — but that is still in the genre of their greatest work — of which “67 & 68” is front and center.

That’s a good one have it on my faves.

All of the band members of Chicago except for Terry Kath were classically trained musicians, music majors at DePaul. Kath couldn’t even read music but his sound was unique. He was the soul of the band and after he died Chicago became a ballad band.
The Tanglewood concert on YouTube is amazing.
