The broccoli heads I got didn’t grow large before showing signs of flowering.
My asparagus plants are producing spears but of a quarter-inch size that tend to be tough.
The bleeding heart vines I planted are blooming.

I thought of moss even before you mentioned it in your post. A combo of burlap and moss would be nice looking and functional. You must post a pic when done!
Working with just what you have, I like the burlap liner on the outside where you can see it, and the cardboard liner on the inside where you can’t, with drainage holes, of course.
My favorite ‘finds’ are old metal kitchen items - flour sifters, colanders, etc. to line and fill with dirt and Pansies or herbs. I think it looks so cute!
So nice to see you - rain or not! :)
Just a tip for those starting out with this, either use a glass container or a plastic one you do not care about.
The egg shells will tear up the plastic inside of what ever you use.
Gardening hacks and tips are a great topic. One I do is use a half flake of oat straw in the bottom of a planter where we put salvia every year for the hummingbirds. Don’t separate the flake just set it in like a block. You’ll use less soil and it will weigh less. As the salvia grows taller the whole thing sinks down as the hay starts to rot. So the plants have a nice compact look all summer. Dump and compost everything in the fall. Can’t wait to learn a bunch of new tips. Still too cold by a month to plant outside but everything doing well inside. I am psyched for thus years garden. Happy Easter to all.
LOL! Seems like you’re gardening on the other side of the WORLD from me!
Our night-time temps are still below freezing, so while I NEED to, I still can’t move peppers and tomatoes out to the greenhouse. MAYBE next week. Maybe.
My worst fear is that we’ll have one of those growing seasons that goes from cold STRAIGHT to hot and humid. It’s happened before, it’ll happen again. :(
Such a pretty kitty! :)
Our local Volunteers of America has a one day a month where everything is half price.
“...might have to find a way to prop the old leg up a bit - I have ideas.”
Unless there are pictures, it didn’t happen, LOL!
Thanks - didn’t know they were ‘death’ on plastic! My blender is glass.
π
Thank you, I can see how that would work well.
Last year at the township dump, I got an antique wagon wheel planter, gorgeous worn white paint, one welded-on large pot holder on the left and right side of the wheel, and welded feet to keep it upright.......and 2 wire hanging baskets, and 2 matching railing-attached metal planters (only needed liners). Also got 60 assorted clay pots! Clay is my favorite because my grandparents grew things in them at their glass greenhouse/garden center/floral shop way back before commercial places used plastic. Clay is so charming. π₯°
I think I will try that first, moss and burlap.
Will try to post pictures.
I have an old sheet I could use. Thanks for reminding me I have it. Saved a ripped sheet last year.
dollar tree has the basket liners... for $1.25 of course, lol
Yikes!! :-(
