Thanks.

That reads much like the label on the shaker bottle.

Salt and Pepper for smoked briskets at Rb’s pit. Sometimes I’ll do Montreal steak seasoning. I don’t consider that to be seasoned salt but more of a spice blend.

Haven’t seen one of those bottles in many decades. I’ll have to take a look when I am in the store next.

MSG is what Lawry’s is.

Nope, no MSG in Lawry's.

I get our paprika online at Butcher Packer out of Detroit. The smoked sweet is the absolute best. Makes fantastic chicken paprikash. A one pound bag is something like 8 bucks.

I asked every pitmaster from the top ten barbecue joints on our most recent list for their seasonings. Here are their replies:

Top ten?

If the Salt Lick in Driftwood Texas is not on the list the got their info from a pamphlet or something.

The pit...

MSG is what Lawry’s is.

I believe you’re thinking of “Accent”…

Liquid Smoke shows up a lot more often than most people think. It just works too well.

I do a 30/30/40 rub. 30% pepper, 30% Lawrey’s and 40% course kosher salt. Briskets sit for 24 hours in the rub, butts are brined for 24 and sit in the rub for at least an hour. Ribs get rubbed and put on the Pit Boss immediately. Never had a complaint and most folks complement it.

Only on Ribeyes. Never on brisket, ribs or butts. That’s just me though.

Very similar to HEB or Noland Ryan steak seasoning.

HEB has this smoked salt from Mexico in the bulk spice section. I like to use that for extra smoked flavor.

Walkerswood Jamaican jerk paste or Durkee’s jerk rub go on all my BBQ.

Put Lawry’s on burgers, chicken etc. Goes on the grill, it gets Lawry. Only exception is putting Hardcore Carnivore on steaks.
