Famous Original Ray’s Pizza still rules — no matter what pizza snobs say. As its crown logo proclaims, the local chainlet, which has three locations in Manhattan, is the king of pies, the imperatore of all New York street food.
The Big Apple is full of vaunted pizzerias, such as Una Pizza Napoletana, which just reopened to a blizzard of hype on the Lower East Side after a two-year hiatus. “Big cheese foodies” and celebrities stampeded the Orchard Street spot at its launch, Page Six reported.
I wonder how many sprang for a $750 tasting menu for four. A pizza tasting menu? Well Una Pizza Napoletana’s dough is “naturally leavened! For me, good ol’ Ray’s reigns supreme. Its gooey, cheesy, messy $3.50 slice laughs at pricier, pretentious mutations.

What would that Philistine know about Pizza?
OK, that looks pretty good.
Name / location of the joint?
.
For me to get NYC pizza, I have to drive by New Haven
So why bother?
best pie i ever got was at the Manhattan side ferry terminal and it was 24hrs a day... for a buck
Always wondered what they served out of that trailer. Never tried it though. Maybe give it a try!
Forgot Nunzios now Saggios is good pizza. Pretty expensive now though.
They’re in a brick and mortar location in Cedar Crest now. Nunzios has been out of business for a couple decades. Saggios is still in the university area.
I had forgotten about Nunzio’s. That was really good pizza.
If I remember correctly, Romeo DiLallo would have pizza from next door available at Molly’s. Been a long time. Romeo was a great guy.
They had that funky “mothership” location on San Mateo and a more conventional one at Gibson near Louisiana. Liked their pies.
I always went to the San Mateo location and get the green chile and pepperoni.
May have been before my time here. Molly’s has been around awhile. Saw a picture once of Deputy Tomas Herrera with 2 MP’s breaking up a fight GI’s were involved in during WW II at Molly’s.
Romeo was Molly’s son and ran the bar in the 80’s. I do know he passed away a few years ago.
Remember when Sadie’s was in the bowling alley?
Absolutely. One of my good friends was a cook there.
Best food ever is in ABQ. I do miss the food.
There’s still a ton of great places both old and new. Plus it’s a hotbed of brew houses. Burger Boy in Cedar Crest is still going. Plus, after a brief closure Grandma’s K&I Diner still makes the Travis.
Burger Boy. Man, you keep reminding me of great eats. I have yet to find places that compare in San Antonio. I guess I will keep looking.
I visited a friend in ABQ in the late 80’s and ate there. I decided that I had to move from the east coast to NM. I did a couple years later, met my wife and have had a great life.
Different toppings depending on what’s leftover in the fridge.
Last weekend’s fridge clean out was leftover sauce, some mozzarella, the last onion slices, some bell pepper, pepperoni and fresh basil from the windowsill on a large homemade dough all for about $3. It was so good there none left for breakfast the next morning, yum.
