A standoff that ensued when a nearly naked home invader took a woman, 53, hostage and held a gun to her head in San Diego was captured on video.

The break-in was around 1:30am on April 9th, on Viacha Drive in the Tierrasanta neighborhood of San Diego.

Demetrius Trussell, 40, the alleged intruder, also is suspected in two break-in attempts, as well as the theft of a white minivan in the neighborhood on the same night.

As I already said: I usually critique headlines only when they are grammatically faulty (Dangling Participles are a favorite). The headline in question is grammatically faultless. However, it no doubt could contain more-relevant information. So my alternative:

40-year-old crazed Black gunman, currently on parole, takes two hostage in San Diego

Headlines are to get your attention to read the article. They should be short and punchy. (Or they used to be. I missed the “make them long and florid” memo.) Certainly no longer than necessary. “Nude Gunman” is your horrific attention-grabber. “Takes Father and Daughter Hostage” are the act and stakes of the crime central to the story. His race, age, mental, and parole status are relevant details for the story but convolute a headline. “in San Diego” in my own headline isn’t necessary, either.

If you read the list of charges at the end of the clip this is one that he was NOT charged with.

Seems to me to be an obvious one and an easy firearms enhancement. But he has black privilege...
