CLAIM: A photo shows the Russian warship Moskva on fire in the Black Sea.
AP’S ASSESSMENT: False. The image has been manipulated. The original shows a 2019 fire aboard a Tanzanian commercial vessel in the Kerch Strait, near the Black Sea. The edited version was cropped, flipped horizontally and colored green.
THE FACTS: After Ukraine said Thursday that a missile attack by its forces hit the Moskva, the flagship of Russia’s Black Sea fleet, a “night vision” photo purporting to show the vessel on fire emerged online. Moscow said the vessel was merely damaged in a fire, making no mention of an assault.
The blurry image showed a ball of fire and a plume of dark smoke rising from the water. Beside the fire, a long rectangular vessel can be seen with a smaller, lighter plume of smoke near it.

So the flagship Moskva is okay? Send it in close to bombard Odessa. Maybe send the whole fleet nice and close to the shoreline, because we know the Ukrainians cannot damage the mighty Russian fleet. /s
While there are certainly a multitude of lies surrounding this war, the truth still does exist.
When both sides and the physical world agree that a ship was once above but is now below the water’s surface denying it is rather silly.
My guess is the Moskva hit one of the mines that got loose from the Odessa harbor a couple of weeks ago and started showing up in various locations around the Black sea.

What image? It not on AP or anywhere else - so make a statement and attribute it to some one else, then blame them for saying it - works with photos too, apparently
