My parents love what is going on in CA. They are lifelong democratic voters. They live in the foothills away from all the crime and homelessness. They consume the national evening news every night like good little plebes. And they think that Gavin Newsom is doing a great job. How the hell do you combat that. I have tried to reason with them calmly. Does not work. My sister has tried to put them in contact with alternative news that reports the actual news. Nope. They are just parroting what lies Fox news reports.
It’s weird. My sister is as conservative as me. But her daughter (my niece) lives in Southern CA and is JUST LIKE your parents. It’s the reverse situation. My sister can calmly discuss the facts with her until the cows come home, but all my niece can say is “Where did you hear that? Fox News??” is a most snide manner.
I know exactly what you mean. That generation who grew up believing the network news was the gospel will NEVER change. It’s their opioid. No breaking free.
