For First Time, Measurable Snowfall Hits Portland, Oregon, in April
Newsweek ^ | 04/11/2022 | Jake Thomas

Posted on 04/14/2022 8:49:00 AM PDT by fireman15

Unexpected winter weather in Portland, Oregon, closed schools, downed trees and left residents without electricity as the state's largest city saw its first April snowfall in recorded history.

Residents of Portland woke up to a blanket of snow Monday morning after cold air and wet weather caused unseasonably frigid overnight conditions. Portland saw its first ever snowfall documented in April since the National Weather Service (NWS) began keeping records in 1940. The snow follows other unusual weather events the Pacific Northwest has seen over the last year.

A bit cool (39 degrees) and windy as hell here in Northern Illinois.

I call bs on this report.

When I lived in southern oregon back in the early seventies it was common
for portland to get snow every year in the winter.

I suspect this bogus report being the work of the globull climate change
propagandists.

Sounds like Calgary. I figured to get through a day there you had to wear a bathing suit under your snow suit.

Amazing weather there!

Yes, but it has been Spring for nearly a month.

First, I am not arguing with you, and I am not saying that this is being caused by “climate change” or “global warming”. The earth has not warmed in nearly 8 years according to satellite records. Yet we are being told that we are now in the middle of a climate emergency.

https://wattsupwiththat.com/2022/04/03/the-new-pause-lengthens-now-7-years-6-months/

I had a very conservative friend arguing with me a few days ago about the climate in Alaska. He said that it is getting much warmer up there. And in truth some parts may be going through a warmer spell part of the time. But we can no longer trust the official record because it is maintained mostly be activists, and even they are not claiming that it has warmed more than 1 F in the last 30 years which is not really detectable by human bodies. The warming they describe is most likely the result of cyclic changes, like how it was warmer in the 1930s than it is now.

But now my good buddy has bought into this nonsense. He lived in Alaska before but moved South for warmer weather. Now he is planning on moving back because he believes that the weather is warm up there now. You cannot make this stuff up.

First time ever? Or first time in someone’s lifetime? Or the first time in “recorded” history?

Yes, others are getting it much worse than we have where my wife and I live. It is still a little aggravating to look out the window and see it snowing in the middle of April.

“ RECORDED! Pretty sure sometime in “unrecorded” history it snowed at those coordinates.”

The article states very clearly that it is since the 40s, which is typical cherry picking by climate activists. The entire area where we live, 150 miles North of Portland was covered in thousands of feet of ice around 15,000 years ago. Where our house is located near the foothills it was covered by a large glacier less than 10,000 years ago. This is a blink in the eye in Geologic time

My wife and I are in our 60s and have lived here our entire lives. Even in the late 1960s and early 1970s when we went through a cold spell, we still had Spring in April not snow.

Actually, I have decided to be offensive toward ‘wokeness’ whenever possible. When referring to the ‘unhoused’, henceforth I will be using ‘vagrants’ and ‘bums’. And it’s the Wuhan virus, and the president is Brandon.

Yes, but it has been Spring for nearly a month."

True that.

That being said, I personally sat through a snowstorm on the forth of July at
Diamond lake here in southern oregon back in that time frame.

So I still call bs on the report.

Outliers to narrative are removed from collected data. For quality control purposes.

That is for sure, except that they call them “extreme weather events” and claim that they are becoming more common because of “climate change”. Of course, the record does not actually support that without some jiggering of the numbers.

The problem that we have here is that we had just enough warmer weather that lots of trees and flowers still started to bloom, but it is still too cold for the bees which are more sensitive than plants to fly around. The only bees that I have seen have been lying on the ground too cold to move. So, despite high pollen counts some days... nothing is getting pollinated. We are going to have crappy fruit output this year that is for sure.

Diamond Lake is at over 5200 feet and is more than a hundred miles North of California. I have been at 5200 feet in summer when it started snowing as well. It is a little unusual but not unheard of. It has somewhere around zero to do with the current cold spell that we are experiencing in our area.

Of course they do. Climate Change is a religion, nothing can disprove it. Cyclic cooling proves it as well as cyclic warming. Drought proves it as well as more rain. In the mind of a true believer, everything proves global warming
