Trump Had Every Reason to Endorse Dr. Oz

The reaction by some to Donald Trump’s endorsement of Dr. Mehmet Oz in the U.S. Senate race in Pennsylvania seems a bit over the top. I mean, I get it on some levels: Oz isn’t great on the issues, isn’t a conservative rockstar (as if Pennsylvania produces any), and is an unknown commodity in electoral politics (see Trump, Donald J., circa 2015). But everyone needs to take a deep breath and understand that Oz is 10 times better than former hedgefund CEO Dave McCormick. And in Trump’s mind, maybe 50 times better.

“Beyond China, McCormick is your typical open borders, pro-amnesty, Chamber of Commerce type of Republican. He’s also the typical neocon who hasn’t seen a war he doesn’t like. Even worse, he’s bought into the lie of January 6. When asked about it by Bloomberg weeks after the incident, in the context of whether the GOP should jettison Trumpism, McCormick replied, “We shouldn’t embrace the divisiveness of the last four years” of which “Trump bears a great responsibility.” “

Given this, I don’t fault Trump one bit for choosing Oz. A middle of the road Rat would be preferable to a traitor like McCormick.

Rubio is your typical open borders, pro-amnesty, Chamber of Commerce type of Republican. He’s also the typical neocon who hasn’t seen a war he doesn’t like.

And Trump endorsed him anyway.

I have a slightly different take.

Trump’s done the math and decided that, barring some miracle, Fetterman is taking the seat no matter who runs against him.

The point of endorsing Oz is to force Fetterman to spend his war chest running ads against a candidate with high name recognition, instead of being able to give that money to other Democrats running for office.

RE: Lived in PA since 1986, and not a chance in hell I will vote for this carpetbagging slime bag.

So, your choice is to stay home then?

*Whatever makes you think Oz will be loyal to Trump?* Trojan horse syndrome. It’s there.

*What about Kathy Barnett????*
You must be joking. No one knows who she is except us freepers. If ‘checking all conservative boxes’ was the solution we would have had Dan Quayle as POTUS. A familiar face(Oz) will allow resources to be used to win other races. Get it?

Yes, that’s the exception to the “not elite education” caveat. He does have a masters from the Kennedy School.

Trump saw that McCormick blamed him for the attack on democracy, and he’s not going to endorse anyone who does that. Full stop.

He’s not a Pennsylvanian. He knows nothing about my state. He’s a carpetbagger. I don’t care if Trump endorsed him. Trump brought Omorosa and Anthony Scaramouchi into his administration and look how that turned out.

McCormick and Oz are running one attack ad after another. I hope they knock each other out of the race. I’m sick of rich types trying to buy the election. I won’t vote for either of them. And Oz’s ads are really odious and phony. He tries to sound like a Trump clone. And his oozing charm turns me off.

Oz is a Rino, I don’t understand what people don’t get. He is a Muslim. Dual citizenship from Turkey. Yet, conservatives are falling all over each other to vote for him.

I never claimed she’d be anything at all.

Just challenging the assertion that Oz will be loyal to Trump.

I like Barnett. I heard her interviewed on the local radio station and she did an excellent job. Very articulate and actually seems to stand for something. Strongly endorsed Trump’s policies. I’m going to vote for her. And she’s an Army veteran.

Former NYC Mayor Ed “how’m I doing” Koch used to say: If you agree with me on 2 out of 10 issues, vote for my opponent; if you agree with me on 7 out of 19 issues, vote for me; if you agree with me on 10 out of 10 issues, see a psychiatrist!

Fetterman is lieutenant governor and associated with Wolf’s anti-fossil fuel policies in Pennsylvania. We’re swimming in natural gas and have abundant coal. Wolf wants to shut down coal plants and follow the Green New Deal. He’s been pushing taxes on the natural gas industry and is very unpopular in Pennsylvania except in the Philadelphia suburbs where Prius-driving elites buy this crap and can afford sky-high gasoline and electric bills.

All Fetterman’s opponents have to do is hang that around his neck. Add to that he traveled the state to promote recreational marijuana. Rural Pennsylvanians won’t go for either of those policies.

DR. OZ must have a complete respect for life before he will get my vote. Abortion is murder and I will not vote for anyone who tolerates it.

Stay Home?

Cleary you don’t live in PA, because its almost always some foolish outsider who makes such idiotic statements...

“Oh if you don’t support candidate A, that I can’t possibly vote for, because I don’t live there, but it’s who I think should win, there must be no other option.”

Hate to break it to you, but OZ isn’t even winning the primary here at this point... He’s a wet noodle. That’s how bad he plays here, he literally has more name recognition that any GOP candidate, and he’s running second and has been all year... Though the Trump endorsement might get enough low information voters to back him that he may pull off the primary win... we will see.

OZ is a twit... he literally has NO base in PA beyond the name recognition and the low information women who were fans of his show.

He believes guns are a health care issue, and has advocated for transgender childhood mutiliation... he’s no “ideolistic conservative” in any way.... he’s just another GOPe/Uniparty/RINO hack trying to play a part that he thinks will get him elected.

Toomey was the last straw for me, won’t hold my nose and vote for another hack.. for 30 years we’ve had to deal with these fools.. because that’s who the PA GOP wants us to support, and I am done with it... Specter, Santorum, Toomey... DONE...

Other PA Gop voters can continue their battered women relationship with the party, but I am done.. you give me a crap candidate, don’t expect my vote. I’m done... The attitude of the GOPE of PA is the same as the GOPe of DC... if they had had there way in 16 we would have had JEB...absolutely no difference in how the state party operates...

I’ll support who I believe represents me and my values, and if they lose in the primary, I own’t hold my nose and support someone I know doesn’t in the general.

OZ is a terrible candidate.

There is a red tide coming this fall, no doubt, but if I had to put a race that the Dems will buck the trend, I would say the PA Senate race is probably a race I would not be surprised if the Dems gain this seat. Fetterman is a solid candidate, and he quite honestly, is going to make the GOP candidate, whoever it is, likely look inept and poor once they are head to head.

I am viewing this race as a bell weather, if the GOP candidate wins this fall, then the D party is going to get crushed everywhere, because all the GOP options (well the ones high enough in the polls in the primary) are all pretty crap offerings... If any of them face Fetterman and win, then a ham sandwich would have won as long as it had an R by its name.

Right now, odds are heavily in the GOP favor to hold this seat on paper, but knowing this state the way I do.... Once it’s a head to head matchup and whoever the GOP nominee is has to stand up and face Fettermen head to head, I will not be surprised to see that even though Biden is a failure, and the party is mudd, that this race bucks the trending.

The usual hack rhetoric of inexperienced politicians, isn’t going to stick to Fetterman... “He’s a fat cat, a big wig, an insider, etc etc etc”. Just aren’t likely to bite. Fetterman spent years as the Mayor of Braddock PA, fighting battles most politicians and people walked away from... he’s an imposing presence in any room... you aren’t going to ignore him, and he has the bonafides to make these carpet baggers the GOP has put forward look exactly as empty as most of them are.

We will find out this fall one way or another, I know the Democrat party brand is in the toilet, and this fall should be an absolute run away for the GOP... but this is one race, where I really will not be surprised if Dems gain this seat. GOP candidate, whoever it winds up being , will have a large wind at their back, but I would not remotely count Fetterman out... he is by FAR the strongest candidate on either side of the aisle.
