Top candidates Emmanuel Macron and Marine Le Pen both improved their vote shares on Sunday night over their previous 2017 performances, and the pair will face off again in 13 days’ time to decide who will be the next President of France.

While Sunday’s first-round vote for the Presidential election saw the lowest turnout in 20 years with over 25 per cent of registered French deciding to stay at home, the leading candidates all increased their vote shares at the expense of minor parties. With 97 per cent of the vote counted per the French interior ministry, globalist-centralist, former socialist party cabinet minister Emmanuel Macron took 27.6 per cent in the first round (2017: 24%), national-populist conservative Marine Le Pen took 23.4 per cent (2017: 21.3%), and hard-left Jean-Luc Melenchon 21.9 per cent (2017: 19.5%).….

I wouldn’t get excited. Repeat of 2017’s election...Le Penn will be lucky to cross the line with 40-percent of the vote. The fact that a quarter of the population didn’t show up and vote...demonstrates they aren’t that charged up with any of the 14-odd candidates who were on the ballot.

Le Pen and Melenchon economic agenda is virtually indistinguishable.

Le Pen is a bonafide nationalist.

Le Pen can add Zemmour’s 7% for a total of 30.5%

The centrist aren’t going to vote for her.

She needs a large share of the communist vote to win.

Le Pen can use Macron’s foolish attack on the Polish PM (he insanely called him an anti-Semite yesterday) as an example of his pathetically failed diplomacy (along with his groveling to Putin).

They call the second round to be virtual tie.
Macron is widely unpopular, I bet many voters are thinking about getting the alternative a try.
There is a long televised debate (2.5 hours). They think it will be decisive.

BTW I like an idea of a long debate. It give the candidates chance of really debate, not just throw out some soundbites.
One debate seems also a great idea. We have bunch of them, everybody just repeats the same every time. Who can watch that?
