In a stunning change of rhetoric, Dr. Anthony Fauci, the architect of our nation’s COVID-19 response, seemingly conceded on Sunday that new government restrictions weren’t going to happen and that it’s now up to Americans to assess their own risk and act accordingly. Hallelujah!
“This is not going to be eradicated, and it’s not going to be eliminated,” Fauci said Sunday on ABC’s This Week. “And what’s going to happen is that we’re going to see that each individual is going to have to make their calculation of the amount of risk that they want to take.”
Fauci said that Americans will have to consider their age, vaccination status, and other factors to determine what precautions they want to take.
“We’re at that point where, in many respects, … we’re going to have to live with some degree of virus in the community,” he added.
This about-face comes less than two weeks after Fauci warned that new COVID restrictions could happen in response to the BA.2 omicron subvariant. He shied away from using the word “lockdowns” but suggested that mask mandates and other restrictions might return.
Fauci’s pivot to individual choice marks the first time he’s ever entertained the idea that people can assess their own risk and take whatever precautions they feel are appropriate. This, frankly, is what we should have done all along.
I can only imagine how bad the polling must have been for Fauci to shy away from the possibility of dictating new restrictions.

What Trump should have done, you mean. Instead he handed it to Pence who then let Fauci become the de facto President of the US. After that, Trump did whatever Fauci told him to do.
Shutdown for two weeks? Sure. Oh, you want longer? Sure.
By the time Trump had enough courage to push back even slightly..it was too late. His presidency was gone, the media was solid against him and supporting Fauci, the economy was collapsing, the elections were being skewed by the “emergency procedures,” etc.
BTW, Biden is not doing anything to stop Fauci…the Dems have simply realized that there’s too much anger at him to use him as their public face, so he’s become inconvenient and now it’s time to put him out to pasture.
But heck, now they have created Ukraine and WWIII to replace him, not to mention global warming, so it’s all good if you’re a Dem.
Hindsight’s 20/20. Trump was in a bad situation. Thousands were dying in NYC.

I looked. Lots of very high priced headcount. Who is giving the big bucks to fund the Bush Foundation and why?
At this point he's more like a puppet. He's given a script and that's what he spouts off. Dems are worried about mid-terms, so the narrative is evolving.
It helps me to be reminded here, how many others also figured so much of the truth about this out so long ago, and what to do for themselves (as did I). When I see that here it reminds there IS still intelligent life out there! Because nowadays we don’t see too many signs of intelligent life otherwise!!
