A DHL cargo jet broke in half after sliding off the runway while landing at San Jose’s international airport.

The fire department says the Boeing 757 had taken off from Juan Santamaría Airport just west of the capital but decided to return after detecting a failure in the hydraulic system. Officials say that upon landing the aircraft skidded, turned and broke in two, exposing its cargo.

I think they may want to fix that before they fly again.

A quick search shows many clever, creative, and exciting works...

My favorite from the first page:

Will the area around the plane now look like the train tracks in Los Angeles?

That plane is probably 30+ years old. DHL probably ignored FAA requirements to inspect the plane for corroded rivets and other mechanical stress issues.

My dad was a Maintenance Chief when he retired in 1976. He called the tape they used to temporarily repair stuff, “hundred mile an hour tape.”

My dad called it 500 mph tape - flew faster planes. :)

They mentioned a hydraulic failure and thus returned. I wonder if they had brakes or perhaps a brake failure on one side.

My climbing buddies did an Alaska fly in climb; some of us were gainfully employed and did not attend.

Getting into the aircraft they spotted a few bags of dog food and ask where is the dog?

...The pilot used to carry chocolate, energy bars, jerky... for emergency food but too often consumed some for a snack.

Another pilot told him to sample different dry dog food and stock up on the least objectionable brand.

No more in flight snacks.

Curious if they announce the age of that aircraft. When did they start flying 757 planes.

Accidents and incidents

On April 7, 2022, a Boeing 757-200PCF (registered HP-2010DAE) made an emergency landing after taking off from Juan Santamaría International Airport due to hydraulic issues. After the aircraft landed back, it veered off the runway and broke up into two parts after falling into a ditch.

Note to self: Avoid flying DHL.

The pilot was showing off for his girlfriend when he ‘drifted’ the airplane.
