Chris Rock chose not to press charges.
Does the victim in an assault need to press charges in order for the police to act? I thought a violent crime speaks for itself.
In Calif where I live, there’s a law that says if an officer sees an assault or finds evidence of one, like a wound or even a red mark, they are obligated to arrest the alleged offender whether the victim wants to press charges or not. It does not matter.
It was put in place so victims of spousal abuse, which is rampant here by the way, can’t be threatened into silence by the abuser. That law has been in effect for decades that I know of. Now I ask you, why was Will Smith considered exempt from that law, when millions, including officers at the Oscars witnessed the incident? An assault plain as day. But they just shrug and treat the Hollywood baby like he’s above the law.
I’m sick and tired of this double standard crap! If it would have been a white guy going off on a black they would have fallen all over themselves to arrest him, whether he wanted to press charges or not.
