our GPS took us to Louisville Ky. via a whole bunch of back roads. We were headed for W Va, so a bit outta the way, lol. If we were driving at night we would have been jammed up.
[scroll down at link...some are only for emergency rescue, others have texting capability]
As satellite messaging and emergency devices become more popular, Garmin has carved out a corner of the market. Known for their GPS devices, the Explorer+ is a communicator and rescue device.
Combine Garmin’s legendary GPS with two way messaging and SOS capabilities and you get the Explorer+.
You can send messages to contacts, view your location and navigate via GPS, or hit the emergency button for a magical evacuation coordinated by Garmin’s for-profit rescue center.

In Breaking bad an RV was used to make Meth. Great show if you ever want to watch it.

Ya Got to Know
You’re Limitations!!!

Being a Cub Scout
Has certainly paid off.
God Bless them for their wanderlust and sense of adventure.
A million times better than spending your last decade on a couch, staring at a screen. A million times better.
At least they were out there living life.
“You can at least switch to satellite view instead of map view and at least take a look at what it’s proposing.”
The serious problem w/ Google Maps is that you don’t get any map unless A: you have a cell connection, or B: you downloaded the route before hand.
You get out of coverage, you may know your grid location from GMaps, but you have NO road or terrain info - a blank sheet.
If you get a route through, GMaps will, as I recall, download the map for the route. If you go very far off of it, you are again in a blank field.
Looks like I've got reading comprehension problems (and assuming a "Kia Soul" was an SUV-type)
There are areas of Nevada and Utah in which GPS is unreliable because the government experiments with GPS jamming on some of its test ranges.
I hope to see more info on this story in time.
GPS don’t even work here in Missouri. We have had friends end up miles away when trying to find out place.
Others pointed out that there is no substitute for paper maps and a compass. This is absolutely true. Purchase the USGS quadrangles for deep country travels.
We got a travel trailer last year, and we like to camp in remote spots without cell coverage, so we have an emergency satellite phone.
My husband got it after he broke his legs on a solo backpacking trip and had to hike 11 miles with a broken leg.
Sad story.
RVs are as hard to maintain as, say, an Army deuce and a half or a humvee. Also they are super easy to get stuck when it rains.
No, did you?
You’re not kidding about RVs being easy to get stuck. Did you ever see ‘The Long Long Trailer’ with Desi Arnaz and Lucille Ball?
Lucy convinces Desi to buy a 40 foot trailer and tow across the United States. Hilarity ensues.
I once got my 19 foot travel trailer stuck. In an RV Park of all places. The campsite was pretty narrow in between several trees.
I could not back the RV out without scraping the side of my SUV. I could not pull the RV out without scraping the side of the RV. So what to do?
Basically I had to pull forward, unhitch the RV, back the SUV up at a different angle, hitch up, pull forward, unhitch, back up the SUV at a different angle, hitch up, lather, rinse repeat.
After about 45 minutes of hitching and unhitching and being mighty careful. I finally got the SUV and the travel trailer out from between the trees without any scrapes.
Get Busy Livin,
Or
Get Busy Dying!

Absolutely Positively Correct!!!

A point We all Missed.
Thanks!
Sad story, but not as bad as slowly declining on a sofa watching screens. See 46 and above. Salute to hubbie!
