Nine days after Ronnie and Beverly Baker were last seen in their RV while driving through Nevada, the missing Indiana woman was found alive on Tuesday. Although family members say Beverly is "doing okay," her husband has died.

Ronnie, 72, and Beverly, 69, were located in a "remote mountain area of Esmeralda County near Silver Peak, Nevada," Tuesday afternoon, the Esmeralda Sheriff's Office said in a statement on Wednesday.

"It was determined that Ronnie had passed away. Beverly was alive and in good spirits considering what took place," police wrote, noting that she was airlifted out of the area and eventually taken to Renown Medical Center in Reno.

The discovery came hours after authorities were able to locate their RV around 11:30 a.m. "Due to the remote area where the motorhome was located it took several hours for these teams to reach it," police wrote, adding that upon their arrival, they discovered that "the motorhome appeared to be stuck."

The world is an inhospitable place for those that take it too lightly.

Yep, when you get out in the boonies with no cell or data service, Google maps doesn’t work.

I learned that when hiking the White Mountains in New Hampshire.

Google Maps suck when it comes to driving directions.

You can at least switch to satellite view instead of map view and at least take a look at what it's proposing. The satellite images are updated annually for most areas.

If you're going RVing in remote spots it would be wise to carry enough supplies for a month. And a small solar gen.

And make sure you’re well-armed. Never know when one of the democrat voters roaming the countryside will decide that it’s time to redistribute your wealth.

Should have towed using a real truck. We pull ours (21 ft) with my 5.3L V8 pickup. I wouldn't dare go smaller.

You're talking truck and trailer RV, they were driving a motor home with a towed vehicle behind it. The Soul was the towed vehicle.

Never understood the whole RV thing! see ‘Breaking Bad’!

Please explain what you mean for someone who never was inclined to watching ‘Breaking Bad.’

Actually that's a good idea even if you're planning to stay at Walmart parking lots.

I always carry a 750ml Camelbak full of water wherever I go, even to the drug store, and usually a couple of cans or bottles of soft drinks.

I always have a few maps in my truck. My nephews look at maps and it’s like a foreign language to them. Right along with analog clocks and roman numerals. Sorcery.

Long ago I learned GPS isn’t magic and it’s essential to have a conventional map to supplement it. I’m 79.

Ain't that the truth! Several years ago, we were traveling through Lubbock, and I wanted to stop at the Llano Estacado winery.

Long story short, my GPS had the winery over a mile from where it was located. It was worth the trip.

Map-reading is, to me, a life skill. Something you need to teach kids so they know how to get around if their electronics fail. Personally, I find planning a trip on a map kinda fun. Looking at the map tips me to alternate routes, conveniences, historic places, and facilities in case of an emergency.

Also, unless you know exactly where you’re going, think twice before leaving a paved road for a dirt one.

Yeh. One article I read had one of the relatives bitterly blaming authorities for not issuing a Silver Alert in time. Why no Silver Alert? Because the couple were not Nevada residents.

Hoo Boy. I guess I’d be bitter also.

What you just typed is the first time I have ever heard the term "Silver Alert."

if you can't be alert be annoyed

I understand the White House issues Silver Alerts frequently. For when Creepy Uncle Joe wanders off.

I assumed they had the Kia Soul on a t-bar behind the RV.   Wait, you were joking.   ;^)

“Beverly was alive and in good spirits...”

“I put up with the RV’ing because he liked it so much. Me? Now I’ll get to stay in nice hotels from now on.”

Me too. I travel a lot for work, mostly in about 15 states. Although I use GPS, I have a paper map of every state with me.
