After an encounter with a bat in upstate New York in 2008, the immunization process was a course 5 shots in my left arm over 4 weeks. No worse than getting 5 tetanus shots in the left arm. At that time the rabies rate in bats in upstate New York was 1 in 25 or 4 percent. 4% chance of contracting a fatal and as far as I know a not treatable disease after symptoms develop.
Took the shots.

They don’t for sure, but more likely than not it is the same rabid fox. Rabid foxes bite people that is what they do. My question is if the fox bit anyone else and the person who got bit didn’t report it. Kind of makes you wonder how many rabid animals are going to be showing up in the area in the near future. what with all the stray animals and rats, etc, other animals had to have gotten bit and infected.

Not at all the same. A rabid animal will show signs within 10 days. Depending on the severity of the bite the decision to euthanize can be made to avoid further injury. But, with a wild animal the extreme measure is the first order to provide info quickly to thos affected.

Yes, a stray cat bit me. It probably didn’t have rabies, but it’s not the thing you can chance on.
They are really not too bad. 4 shots over 2 weeks, and they are all in the arm.
