Nope. James Osterberg’s song “Real Wild Child” was a cover of a 1958 song by Australian rock performer Johnny O’Keefe first titled “Wild One” in that country but released under the first-mentioned title in the US.

He was the best singer for Volare. Well next to Newbomb Turk. ;)

RIP to a great performer, but the best version of “Volare” is done by Newbomb Turk in the movie “Hollywood Knights”.

He was also the inspiration for the name of the high school in “Grease ( 1 and 2 ).”

I feel sad. The old legends are passing on. I’ve been streaming his music via Amazon Prime.

Wow, he was alive?
Never heard of Wildwood Days, but definitely Wild One and Volare (an English cover).
Too bad this missed the ‘50s song tournament this year!

My favorite version of "Volare" aka
Nel Blu Dipinto di Blu (into the blue, painted blue) is the original by Domenico Modugno. It starts out describing a man who paints his hands and face blue and then flies off into the sky, but this turns out to be a dream inspired by his lover's blue eyes.

It is said that the name Conrad Birdie was inspired by Conway Twitty. My favorite quote from Bye, Bye, Birdie is "[men] are all the same--from puberty to Mussolini."

Spent a summer in Wildwood. ‘77 or ‘78, maybe. Good times.
