We increased flu shots over 15-fold between 1980 and 2020. You’ll never BELIEVE what happened next!

This chart is real, straight from the Centers for Disease Control. And it’s spectacular:

Italian Trulli

We went from 12 million flu shots in 1980 to almost 200 million in 2020.

Great job! We totes got rid of the flu, right?

Well, here’s flu deaths from 1959 to 2016:

Italian Trulli

See the trend?

No?

THAT’S BECAUSE THERE ISN’T ONE. There is absolutely no relationship between the number of flu “vaccines” we give and deaths from influenza.

Actually it’s worse that that, because 2017-18 - not shown on this chart - was the worst year for flu deaths in decades - probably since the Hong Kong flu of 1968.

Turns out the flu shot is just as useless as the Covid shot, but no one noticed because it isn’t as dangerous.

Not as dangerous medically, I mean. Arguably more dangerous societally because the public health bureaucracy’s commitment to ramping up flu shots at all costs became the prototype for the Covid mRNA shot campaigns…

I got the flu shot once in the fall of that year.(mid-1990s) Still got the flu late winter. Pointless to me ever since then.

Thanks, however I went and read the actual academic article, and I think the chart may be adjusted to the 2015 population, so I need to correct myself. That said, the popular article needs to note this if it is to import the chart.

My conclusion is that the academic author may have a valid point, though I am still unsure, and that even if he does, the popular article is writing a little over his head.

Why would a graph of monthly deaths have five spikes per year with many months reporting zero. That along with not haveing an obvious seasonal variation (more flu deaths in winter) makes me doubt the graph. Unless the data has the months in each year sorted by alphabetical order splitting the winter into multiple parts.

Forget my post. I didn’t see that the year skips by five, this giving the five spikes: one per year and the spike is the seasonal variation. I thought I found an idiot and it turned out to be me.

Some perspective:

Over the last ten years, it seems that the number of flu deaths in the U.S. averaged about 34,000 per year. Although figures are difficult to come by on short notice, it would appear that in the earlier part of the century, in pre-vaccine days, and when the U.S. population was much lower, the number of flu deaths was much higher. In 1915, prior to the Spanish Flu, the number of deaths exceeded 100,000. In 1918, during the Spanish Flu, the number of deaths exceeded 350,000.

So, even during a non-Spanish Flu year, when the population of the United States was less than one-third of its current total, the number of flu deaths was three times higher.

I’m thankful for vaccines. I’m old enough to have stood in line for a polio vaccine. I remember the impact that red measles had in decades past. I also get a flu vaccine every year. Common sense.

Back in the 1990’s, I worked for the USPS. They encouraged us to get our flu shots, to cut down on employee sick time.

I took that shot 2 years in a row. Both times, I got the flu and had to take 3 days off..

Learned my lesson then. Never again.

Was just gonna point out that there are many factors to take into consideration. 1 more people today than before, 2 people, are not healthier than before- loads more diabetes, and high b,old pressure, and all manner of diseases. 3 our population is older now as folks live longer, so more elderly succumbing to flues and viruses whe they hit,, Whereas years ago people were healthier and younger and could withstand flues better than a sicker older generation of today.

You can still get the flu after a flu shot- it’s just not as bad when you do usually. Also if he got the flu right away, it could have been that he actusl,y had the flu when he got the shot and it just revealed itself, shortly after- that happens to a lot of folks. Thye feel OK the day of the shot, but a day or so later get sick

Also,of note, you can get a flu shot that only covers a specific flu, but if there is another one going around at the dame time, you can get that flu and not the other and think the shot didn’t work.

I’m not arguing pro,or anti- jusy stating why some folks, get flues after being vaccinated sometimes

Years back my doctor explained to me that the flu vaccines were developed for the flus from the previous year. He wasn’t trying to discourage me from getting it.

That’s when I decided not to get any more flu vaccines. What was the point?

Yep,I saw it, but I don’t think the chart takes in account that the population is older now, and sicker too. .ots of overweight folks with a number of comorbiti3s, which is what was taking folks during the covid. Most who died had several comorbidities according to, cdc. Lots. Ore fast food resteraunts today, peop.e working much more desk Jones al, day than before, so less fit, etc. The healthier seem to a,ways breeze right through the flues, and it’s the sick that die for the most part

The average age is starting to go down too some, which indicates a reversal in progress on the health front. Back along, folks worked hard physical, jobs all, their life, the retired, and were fairly healthy till death ( more so than today as folks retire out of shape, overweight, with several comorbitities in a lot of cases)

Same here. My elderly sister in Florida always did, until 2017 when after receiving her annual flu and pneumonia inoculations the Autumn before, she came down with the flu on New Year’s Day, then pneumonia, and passed away on the 10th of January. She was in her mid 70’s and had mobility issues related to a scuba diving incident in her 30’s, but was otherwise in excellent health till then. At the very least, those vaccines prevented nothing.

Well duh. Flu shots have allowed people who would have died of flu to live and die of flu when they are older and have less resistance to flu.

Flu shots are not about the demographic effect of flu or of flu shots. In a free society we get to choose what shots to take. Ostensibly flu shots allow people to escape this year’s flu. Period. Most people want that. If you don’t then don’t get a flu shot.

You do you, girl. Excuse me if I do me.
