DirecTV will drop far-right cable news outlet One America News Network on Tuesday, April 4, according to Bloomberg’s Gerry Smith.
The satellite TV cable behemoth said earlier this year that it planned to no longer carry OAN, which was criticized for spreading false information about the Covid-19 pandemic, the 2020 presidential election, and its general spread of conspiracy theories, once its contract expires. OAN began airing on DirecTV in April 2017.
DirecTV is going through with the move despite Herring Networks Inc., which owns and operates OANN, having sued parent company AT&T on March 7, seeking $1 billion in damages, alleging that the removal of the network from the satellite service was politically inspired and “could be devastating” financially. Court records have shown that about 90% of OAN’s revenue is generated from its AT&T/DirecTV deals.
DirecTV’s decision to drop OAN comes after Reuters revealed last October that parent company AT&T played a significant role in creating OAN and has paid tens of millions of dollars to carry the network on DirecTV.

Do big business entities such as AT&T and DirecTV really think us “Deplorables” will meekly roll over and go back to accepting CNN propaganda if they get rid of alternatives? Yeah, right, like I’m going to all the sudden start believing Falsie’s discredited “medical science,” or that the 2020 election was “the most honest ever.” No, I would get rid of DirecTV instead! (If I hadn’t already done so in 2018).
“They’ll be keeping all the homosexual shows though, right?”
Yes - and they want you to pay for them (along with the other 95% of programming that you NEVER watch.
They DO have a streaming service...
Yup. I cut the cord a long time ago as well (all cable/satellite tv, not just AT&T).
A savvy venture capitalist would do well to start a "a la carte" streaming TV service, where you could simply pay for what channels you want and none of the other channels that come with corporate bundles. But I don't see that happening any time soon.
I dumped direct tv about 2 years ago…price creep plus mindless channel bundles with no viable choices…
Why isn’t anybody doing this? Seems like a great idea.
KlowdTV carries OAN and OAN+.
Funny they never refer to PMSNBC as being ‘far left’.
Cable and satellite companies would see huge profits if they took on OANN, they don’t for political reasons only.
Download the Pluto TV app.
You can watch OAN, The Blaze, Newsmax, America’s Voice, The First Network,
and the only place to watch COPS. 24/7
Why isn’t MSNBC ever labeled far left?
Honestly I don’t know. The stream is in English so didn’t think about it.
OANN has its own app, no? It seems to me any broadcasting entity these days can, or has developed an app to facilitate distribution. Eliminates cable, dish, and air broadcasting altogether.
Comcast/xfinity Streaming has it available, if you want to pay the high price.
I actually asked my cable provider about it before deciding to cut the cord and the way it was explained was that large media companies (like Viacom, TW, etc) only sold their channels in bundles and the licensing arrangements were that if you wanted one, you had to take the rest.
But the cable company didn't have any motivation to tell the media company to stick it and force the issue.
So I just cut the cord.
But with the universal access to high speed Internet becoming ubiquitous worldwide, I think a sufficiently motivated venture capitalist could have more leverage to do something like that. (Think an Elon Musk type)
I stream OAN through KlowdTV for $2.50/month.
If it's anything like the Fox News mobile app, you have to log in to your cable provider to get access to the stream via their app. And it doesn't work when somebody is outside the US.
“Far right” = moderately conservative
I ditched DirectTV 7 or 8 years ago.. I haven’t missed them..
