And I must also add that I am a terrible shot with a handgun. I’m more likely to hit the picture on the wall of my mother in law than the intruder to the left. No, for me it’s just point and blast in the general direction. Just the outgassing of a shotgun will make an attacker stop.
I am fairly proficient with handguns, but if I ever have to shoot a home invader in the middle of the night it would be a lot easier using a shotgun.
My personal preference for home protection is a 12-gauge Remington Wingmaster 870 that my father gave me over 40 years ago. I also have a Mossberg Maverick 88, which is probably a better choice for home defense (it holds 8 rounds vs 5 for my Wingmaster), but I have been firing the Wingmaster most of my adult life and am very comfortable with it.
