It's because they deny the existence of God. Read Romans 1:16-32. It starts off well, with Paul's faith-in-the-line-of-fire type confession of faith (I'm not ashamed of the gospel). Then verses 18-23 are about society as a whole rejecting the glory of God even though His creation and work are obvious. The rest of the passage is about God trying to wake them up to His existence by removing His protective hand from level after level of sinful desires. The idea being He wants us to see how depraved we are and go, "Woah! How did we decline this far till we believe the best sex is the kind that tears up each other's butts! We need to go back to believing in God." (My words, not Paul's.)
