Oh, good grief. Almost all the players who dropped out dropped out previously, not during competition. Combination of prior injury issues, a 65% cut in prize money, Omicron BA.2 worries (overstated IMO, but I can understand a tennis player who would not want to take ANY risk of lung damage*), and an unruly / violent social scene in the area. Serena Williams had a minor surgery. This girl Victoria Azarenka has some sort of personal stress problem (likely related to a very troubled family life).

*OTOH, due at least partially to COVID restrictions, previously Novak Djokovic had stated: " @DjokerNole Dear fans, I’m very sorry to announce that this year I won’t travel to Miami to compete.
