Actually, I had a copy of The Silmarillion some years ago on audio book. It was really fascinating and a good thing for those who just can’t slog through the printed version. Knowing the history gives you a greater appreciation for the LOTR books.

JRR Tolkien, who was a professor of Anglo-Saxon literature, borrowed this term for the character Eärendil, the father of Elrond.
