The last sane person in Hollyweird......................
If I could flip a switch to make it happen the insane leftist demon would keel over.
Well ... my suspicion is that the sane people in the film industry are (1) tired of getting bullied and tired of keeping their heads down to stay out of the line of fire; (2) fearful of the monster that has been unleashed; (3) fully aware that wokeness is box office poison that the industry can't afford, as it is struggling to avoid being eaten entirely by the streamers; and (4) whispering to each other about how to reclaim the middle and draw more people back into the theaters. Politics aside, movie people want to keep making movies and they know they can't do that if people don't show up. Television is not the same thing.
Someone will pop up soon to rain anathemas on "Hollywood" as a den of iniquity. Fair enough, up to a point. But the truth is that the raunchiest stuff today is mostly on tv. There is less nudity and sex in theatrical movies today than there was 20 years ago; it's mostly migrated to the streamers, which saw their status as subscription-based platforms as carte blanche to venture down porn alley. Shunning theatrical movies to watch the streamers is rewarding the worst offenders.
I would love to see a serious piece on this, but my sneaking suspicion is that the late surge in support for CODA was, at least in part, pushback from sane people in the industry who recognize that a change in course is urgently needed. Of the ten films nominated for Best Picture, only could be considered woke agenda movies. The other eight are all reasonably mainstream. CODA was the clear leader in the non-woke category. I also suspect that The Power of the Dog, which spent much of the year as the supposed frontrunner, was hurt by the over-the-top adulation it received from the gay cheering section. I have to believe that at least some voters were thinking strategically. We'll see how it plays out from here.
I read this Oscars was the second least watched Oscars ever.
