Apparently the guy must be illiterate as the ejection handle is usually painted bright yellow with black stripes and a big sign which says “PULL TO EJECT”. I think there’s also a retention pin you have to pull first.

I remember an interdictor pin, but that was pulled when the canopy was blown away. I guess it all happens so fast you don’t have time to enjoy it. WHEEE!!

The seat is active and the handle is hot before takeoff. The safing pin is pulled by the occupant on the ground before flight and stowed until landing where it is installed to prevent accidental ground ejection.
BTW this story is a year old.

Pretty sure retention pin is removed by ground crew as part of preflight procedures.
