If America and NATO had not broken their word given in 1991 to not move NATO one inch eastward, in return for German reunification and Soviet withdrawal from Eastern Europe, but instead, pushed NATO right to the border of Russia, this would not have happened.
What you are saying is that if China, during a decade of American economic depression (a looming possibility) signed “mutual defense” pacts with Mexico, Canada and Cuba, and installed troops, tanks and thousands of MRBMs in those countries aimed directly at America, you would be fine with this. Completely fine.
As long as China subverted those countries first and installed CCP puppets, and the forces were “invited” in.
You would think this was just A1 fine, and would not do a thing about it.

I pretty much dislike both sides equally here. Those people have been killing each other for 500 years and they’ll be killing each other for the next 500 years. I don’t have, want, or need a dog in this fight. That being said the sight of the Russians getting a bit of payback for nearly 100 years of their atrocious behavior in Eastern Europe does warm the cockles of my black heart.
Once again we have the entirely predictable result of Neocon jerkoffs running our foreign policy. NATO should have been disbanded after the Soviet Union fell. We should have shaken their hands, wished them the very best of luck, and walked away. This is a European problem just like Kosovo is.
As far as rattlesnakes and sticks go, you’re completely correct. Trump had us on the right path, of course. Focus on rebuilding America and let the rest of the world sort things out unless there is a clear and well defined threat to American national interests.
No such interest exists in Ukraine. There are no “good guys” and there probably never will be. They’re both hyper corrupt oligarchies and I’ve been saying for months that we should stay the hell out of it.
It’s highly likely that both sides are committing atrocities here. Lord knows the Russians have a long and well documented history of it as do the Ukrainians. But do I give a **** if the Russians are getting their balls cut off? No, I don’t.
The more Russian hardware that gets blown to bits is less Russian hardware they can export to cause trouble elsewhere.
The sight of innocent people being caught in the middle is tragic, of course. And I truly feel for them.
In a fight between Nazis and Communists my most sincere hope is that both sides bleed each other white while we sit back and watch.

There never was anything on paper. The best I can find is some Russians thought they had an agreement in words...
I would love to see this agreement. I have not been able to find it.
I have heard of a later agreement, by Russians, on paper, that NATO could expand indefinitely. I have not seen that agreement either.
If you have a link to an agreement where America and NATO agreed not to expand, I would love to see it.
All I find is Russians saying this is what they believed.
