That song will always have a special meaning to me and her.
Thank you Mr. Collins.

Goodbye clothespin guy, we will hardly miss you.
Duke was the last great Genesis album IMHO.
Phil’s character in that Miami Vice episode was named “Phil Mayhew”.
The drummer that Phil replaced in Genesis was John Mayhew.
Sounds like a great memory.
When my second son was born the wife wanted to hear Mozart so that is what was playing on the mini boom box.
The doctor said he felt like he was shopping at the Fresh Market.
Check out Phil Collins when he was with Brand X. Monster drummer.
My wife and I saw Collins during his “First Final Farewell” tour in Sept, 2004 at the hockey arena in Buffalo. We had seats right behind the wheelchairs just off center stage (about five feet from the stage). He did all of his solo hits and had a great band (including Darryl Stuermer and Chester Thompson) backing him. The first 12 minutes or so was dueling drums with Chester; a novel way to open. It was a GREAT show. That Christmas, a DVD came out which showed the same concert in Paris a couple of months prior. We have that DVD to refresh fond memories. Passed on seeing Genesis in Philadelphia last December given Collins’ health issues. It just wouldn’t have been the same with him sitting in a chair. Wanted to have the good memories.
Yup. Everything after that was Justin beaver.
“Hasn’t Phil been working because some ex-wife was taking him to the cleaners in recent years? He may have plenty of ongoing cash flow with royalties and licensing his music and whatnot, though.”
Yes his divorce settlement was like $25M. But he was a successful artist outside Genesis and is said to be worth $300M — 5 times worth what other members of Genesis are worth.
None of those guys in Genesis have to work for the money. They only work because they love music.
Thanks. I’ll have to check out his autobiography.
Does he include much on how they created the music?
Up to the Abacab album, the songs were individually written, mostly by Mike and Tony, Phil only wrote a few songs himself.
After that the songs were written “by committee” in the studio.
That’s right, and still has a lot of hair at age 72!
unreleased video from that episode - Life is a Rat Race.

I bet Phil would get a chuckle out of that.
So take....take him home...
