Posted by Tuscaloosa Police Department on Thursday, March 24, 2022 Divers and other officers from the Tuscaloosa Police discovered the sport-utility vehicle in water in the Holt community, a rural area a few miles east of Tuscaloosa, police said in a statement.

This is not an uncommon occurrence in areas subject to downpours, and idiots in cars.

Used to live in Houston. Horrendous storms (not hurricanes) dumping up to 30”/day. Water table in area is just few feet below ground level. So, any dip in the road (e.g., to get below a bridge) would quickly fill up. It was a gamble driving thru just standing water (much less running) — are you awake enough during daily commute to remember whether that sign at the side was six feet about road level or eight? Mis-remember and you die.
Every spring when water levels drop in creeks a car would be found .
