Unless you count Australia
Australia...3.27 million sq miles
Russia...6,592,735 million square miles

The former USSR was 8.65 million sq miles. Losing it’s empire cost Russia approximately 2,057,265 sq miles.

For grins and giggles...the USA is 3.80 million sq miles. Roughly half the size of Russia. Half the size of Russia. Let that sink in.

I’ve read that. I think Russia also has less than half the population as the U.S. (140 million I think).

According to the World Almanac, Australia's land area is 2,966,153 square miles.

The Mapparium still shows Africa under colonial rule (so pre-1960) and shows Tibet and Manchuria as distinct from China. It also has Tannu Tuva as an independent country (later annexed by the Soviet Union).
