TOPICS: Chit/Chat
KEYWORDS:
You can find this fun quotation puzzle, to combat early dementia and senility in us baby boomers, in several daily publications. I challenge us with the best ones out there.

The way it works is a letter stands for another letter. For example: AXYDLBAAXR is LONGFELLOW (does not apply to today's cryptogram).

Beware, the game is very addictive. If this is your first time, don't be intimidated, you’ll be solving them all within a few days. If you’re stumped, take a break and return to it.

PLEASE DO NOT post the answer in general comments, but DO post your time and how you made out.

You can certainly send your solution to my private reply, or if you need a hint for today’s Cryptogram ASK THE GROUP FOR HELP!

I suggest printing these out and work them on paper. If you need a little help you can copy and paste it to Hal’s Helper below.

You can then work on the puzzle without using pen and paper, but I recommend that you do NOT look at the letter counter.

HAL'S CRYPTOGRAM HELPER

One last request. Feel free to post a fun or clever clue, the more tangential to the quotation the better, but please don’t put the actual words of the quote in the clue.

My MIND is going crazy today. Had to do the CG without Hal (Hal won’t open). But I managed finally to solve it, mainly due to our favorite 3 letter word being there 3 times.

Just now tried it again. Still not opening…. Server cannot be found error. Maybe it’s a regional problem with his server???

Try clearing your browswer cache and rebooting. Worked fine for me just now.

Unable to open HCH for second day on my Amazon Fire tablet
Tried clearing cache but unbelievably confusing with no indication I accomplished anything. Still no HCH

Incapable of doing these without the grid layout, so ‘though I do enjoy them and do them daily, I’ll be dropping out.
Will make random attempts until I forget to do so or HCH becomes available to me in the future.

Thanks for all the fish.

RE: HCH
I had a lot of trouble opening HAL a few months ago. If I kept refreshing it, it would finally open. I don’t know if that will work for either of you, but worth a try.

Hal’s is dead to me too. Had to solve yesterday without it. Have tried everything today and it won’t load. I guess my little gray cells will have to work harder.

I solved this cryptogram within the last week - must have been in a cryptogram book I’m using.

Hal’s been fine for me. Maybe because I’m working on an older computer? Here’s another “helper”:http://scottbryce.com/cryptograms/

About four minutes. I started with the first word, and then the fourth word. This got me the second word and the author (either one first) and the rest of the puzzle.

Strange.
did a reverse lookup and pinged it, it’s definately alive and working.

Seems that some non-windows devices don’t like the way that his server renders the pages. Maybe try a different browser? Brave is pretty darn robust.

So that means we can’t use Hal on an iPad anymore? That’s disappointing.
