38 years doesn't seem that long ago. Here's a KCTS-9 story showing how to impress your out of town guests with a bus/walking tour. Most importantly, see the changes in downtown Seattle. The old Monorail terminus, only one Westin Tower, and hardly any skyscrapers
Take note of the body styles of the people.
Most people are much thinner back then.
I used to get into FB squabbles with a guy I went to high school with. He went off to an Ivy League education, and, like many of the liberal-leaning folks AI went to school with, settled in Portland. I wonder if he still guides walking tours in Portland.
Sorry - didn’t see the /s. There have been plenty of FReepers that have been serious (well, as serious as one can be from behind a keyboard) about people not coming into their states from other states. My apologies for assuming your comments were in that same vein.
Man, Widget Jr: Get with the program!
Regards,
Man, you got the QAnon/Kremlin/Putin Fan Club talking points just perfect, lol.
This is a true story, I visited Portland mid-February 2020, before the pandemic panic set in, although people were getting itchy about corona. I went to Canon Beach, and it was beautiful, going back to my rental car, I was approached by a 40 something hippie, and he asked me to buy him a flavored cigar, from a small store across the street, since he had been banned from the store, and he gave me 1 dollar.
Went into the store, bought the cigar, and it came out to $1.57 and I payed the change.
I gave him the cigar and then he said without a "thank you", "why are these cigars so costly"
I told hippieman "its because you vote for democrats".
True story.
Yeah, it's so beautiful to be approached in parking lots by 40-something hippies wanting to "ax" a favor of you!
Just makes my day!
"Why was he banned from the store?" I'd want to know.
Regards,
Seriously: I, too, am amazed and deeply puzzled. It's almost as though I had stumbled upon a "glitch in the Matrix."
I am totally dumbfounded by the vehemently pro-Russian (disguised as "There is no reason we should get involved!" or "Both the Ukrainian and the Russian regimes are completely corrupt!" or "We're no better!" or "Look at that poofy-tailed poodle over there!") postings we've been seeing here of late!
Regards,
Regards,
Probably, panhandling by the store.
He did give me a dollar for the cigar, and I gave him a lesson for voting democrat.
I live in a suburb of Seattle. Still liberal, but less crime. So far. Light rail is coming so we’ll see.
The hardest part was for my wife and I (and kids) to make conservative friends. They are here though, just need to look (the right church, shooting ranges, political events, etc.)
Sounds about right. That type is mildly amusing. The worst are the twenty-something Marxist-Leninists that are sure they’ve figured everything out. Except their gender. That seems to puzzle them. We had one run for mayor a couple of years ago. Moved here from the Midwest a few years ago, and apparently was having some kind of crisis of gender while running for office.
Yep, sounds like a future rock-solid conservative voter if there ever was one!
I bet you turned his life / political Weltanschauung right around with that 30-second pep talk!
All humor / snarkiness aside: Thanks for your mildly interesting story!
Regards,
Or maybe we just think our focus should be on the collapse of America taking place. That perhaps we should pay attention to the invasion at our border.
Our economic engine is being intentionally destroyed, as well as our cultural norms and cohesion, and you sit here pontificating about the need to spend resources we don’t have to protect one criminal enterprise from another. You one world leftists disgust me.
I was assigned with the Air Force in Spokane WA from 1976-1980 and made several trips to Seattle during that time. Seattle was a beautiful, clean city at that time. Ditto for Portland. Very sad what’s happened since.
"False Dilemma" Fallacy! We can do both!
Our economic engine is being intentionally destroyed, as well as our cultural norms and cohesion [...]
Agreed!
and you sit here pontificating about the need to spend resources [...]
Where did I say anything about "spending?"
You one world leftists disgust me.
Pretty quick to denounce a fellow FReeper, aren't you? Have you even glanced at my posting history?
Regards,
At least he didn't turn on you with a knife or something else.
WOW! Seattle really does look like it was a nice place to live about 40 years ago. Its a shame to see what far Left wackos have done to it and San Francisco and LA all of which used to be gorgeous.
and I’ll add I’m also amazed at some here parroting the Globalist/Corporate Media talking points that Ukraine is a democracy!, Zelensky is a Churchillian figure, the government in Kiev certainly hasn’t been shelling those two eastern provinces thousands of times for years on end and we must get involved militarily to save the New World Order.
I have visited the Seattle area, there are lots of natural beauty to enjoy. Understand about your family, they are important. Just don’t take a criticism of Seattle as personal..
I think post 28 was enough of your posting history for drawing conclusions.
Uncertainty about getting involved in the Ukraine is hardly a disguise for being “pro-Russian”! And, yes, both combatants are corrupt.
