The family of disgraced former Empire actor Jussie Smollett says he has been put in a psychiatric ward and considered a suicide risk, despite being mentally sound.
It’s the latest twist in the fate of Smollett, who was convicted in December of faking a 2019 hate crime against himself, in what police said was an attempt to build public sympathy.
“What’s very concerning is that there was a note attached to his paperwork today saying that he’s at risk of self-harm,” his brother Jocqui Smollett said in a video posted to Jussie’s Instagram account on Saturday. “He is in no way, shape, or form at risk of self-harm.”
"He is very stable. He is very strong. He is very healthy and ready to take on the challenge that has ultimately has been put up against him," Jocqui added.
The video doesn’t include any proof of the claims.
The Cook County Sheriff’s Office did not directly answer The Independent’s questions about whether Smollett was under mental health watch, though it said in a statement he is not in solitary confinement, instead being held “under direct observation at all times” in his own cell.

Yup- he wasn’t the right token black victim, so the left left him out to dry. I think he thought blm would riot and rampage and burn loot and murder on his behalf, and because he was so,invested in that happening, he now can’t admit he lied now,that they won’t do that on his behalf.
Either thst or he is just truly mentally sick. I’m voting for thr latter because even in the face of o erwhelming evidence proving he lied, he still gets stubborn and cenies it while the whole world looks on in either pity or disgust

Jussie tried to falsely blame innocent Whites for causing him (and his fellow Blacks) great harm.
Blacks and the media constantly tell us that Whites “hunt down blacks merely for the color of their skin.” The late, great Colin Ferguson pointed this out again and again and again.
This is not a “victimless crime.”
For this he deserves to rot in prison - and have his career and reputation destroyed.
Instead, I suspect he will be embraced by the media and Black community after his release - Ava DuVarney will make a sympathetic documentary about his “ordeal,” how he stood up to a “White Racist” justice system and came out with dignity and his head held high.
I also see a book deal, talk show circuit, lots of sympathy from the media and screams that the entire system is racist, racist, racist.
We don’t know that he isn’t.

Was just thinking the same. They’ve all drunk the Kool-Aid. What scumbag uses their 90+ year old grandmother as a character witness? Her “put me in there with him” was pathetic and pandering, and the Judge flatly ignored the sentiment.
I’ve met some couples who formed a third personality and their self-deceived, hermetically sealed world of WE! WE! WE! was something to behold. Never a whole family, where there’s usually at least one dissenter who knows what’s up and isn’t playing. Wish we could find that one in the Smolliet gang and hear from them!

Possibly. His “tantrum” was as schlock performance art as they come. Very fake. His lawyer looked beyond bored by the whole affair.
