Heckled by a spectator during her BNP Paribas Open match Saturday, Naomi Osaka tearfully took the unusual step of addressing fans from the court, telling them that the experience reminded her of the harassment faced by Serena and Venus Williams years ago in the Indian Wells event.
Osaka had lost the first game of her second-round match against Veronika Kudermetova when an unidentified fan yelled, “Naomi, you suck” in an uncommon breach of decorum for tennis spectators. She fought for composure on the court and asked the chair umpire, “can I borrow your microphone,” to address the crowd mid-match. Asked by the umpire what she wanted to say, she replied, “I just want to say something,” Osaka replied. “I’m not going to curse. I don’t curse. It’s just weighing on my heart.”

Unseeded in Indian Wells, Osaka has dropped from No. 1 in the world to 78th. The fan was not identified or ejected, and the crowd had been supportive of the 24-year-old. But her comments showed that the Williams sisters’ experience in the California tournament in 2001 lingers.

I thought she was a golfer lol. Wondered why she mentioned the tennis players. Heckling should not be a thing at tennis.
She can dish it out, but she can’t take it.

The difference being that at a baseball or football game *everyone* is yelling insults at players, coaches, officials, etc.
It’s too bad nastiness has gotten into the more ‘genteel’ sports-competitive events. Though at least nobody went Tonya Harding on her leg or the like.
But still, the heckler should have been ejected.

Her “mental state” appears to have declined significantly since she got involved with him. Seemingly more fragile, victim attitude, overly sensitive, etc.
They should indeed, but so should the ability to ignore and shrug of such nonsense. We must not foster “snowflakeism” along with all of the other degradations of the spine.
Last night was a joke, she was heckled which is not uncommon in tennis and then demanded a microphone to “address” the audience, all while Kudermocova was made to wait while Osaka disrupted play and threw one of her me me me fits. Then does an after match on court interview, and attempts to make it sound like the heckler had screamed a racial slur against her by invoking Serena and Venus. The heckler said, “Naomi, you suck”……. and she does.
Whatever unpopularity Osaka has, she has earned every bit of it. This fraud has used the tennis court as a podium for social justice. During the BLM riots she became outraged with the USA, calling it a GENOCIDAL COUNTRY. Now let’s delve into that…..she plays under the Japanese flag, her father is HAITIAN (the most genocidal place on earth) and she has lived in the US all of her life, which has enabled her vast wealth and career. When she won the US open her rapper boyfriend went with her to receive the trophy and he flipped off the camera.
I also have a theory. Naomi has a habit of suddenly withdrawing from tournaments, “injuries”, “taking breaks” from her career, saying not sure she will return, She has refused mandatory after match interviews, I think Naomi’s mental illness is that she has a big DRUG ADDICTION problem and I also think the USTA knows it and is on the coverup, referring to it as a mental thing. The long break she took was actually a secret suspension for drug usage. (Not unlike the PGA covering for Dustin Johnson when he tested for cocaine and took a personal break from golf).
Dropped from #1 to 78 in the world in 2 years.
The heckler was right, she does suck.
Osaka is a racist.
This young lady is very fragile and doesn’t have the mindset of a top athlete. At least not now.

Not surprised to discover that California has rude, obnoxious, spoiled people who like to give it back to rich, spoiled people.
Such is life.
If you are an adult you shrug and move on because that person means nothing to you.
If you are a petulant child you cry and whine.
I was fed so much jello when hospitalized for four abdominal surgeries over a five year period, that I can't even think of jello, without gagging.
She has serious issues. If a professional ballplayer or football player or NBA player asked to address the crowd everytime fans chanted “You suck”, they’d never finish the game. She is indicative of our weak society that needs affirmation and compassion at every turn.
In 2022 young people getting their feelings hurt is akin to a brutal physical assault in the old days.
Not a champion. May be a great tennis player, but she needs to go work out her demons, and not beg for microphone time.
Hating Asians is acceptable in some by places.
The way people treated her after she beat one of the idolized Williams sisters was disgusting.
