If you have ever seen or read a news story that was about some person or group that you knew about personally then you know that they twisted the facts and lied. Then why believe any other story? They lie about everything. Everything.

Years ago, I read a major US newspaper every day, while riding a bus to work. One thing I noticed repeatedly: the paper published fake photos and/or photo captions. At times it seemed to be intended to produce more drama; other times, it was apparently intended to promote the paper's political agenda. On rare occasions, it was just sloppy work (which you might also expect from a paper, that had no real interest in the truth). I wrote many letters to the editor, but rarely received a response, and never once did the paper ever publish a correction.
They're professional liars, and they've been lying for decades...
